How has the rehabilitation act of 1973 changed the view of society?

The Rehabilitation act of 1973 changed the view on society because its exhibits and portrays that despite the disability of the individual they can accommodate and acclimate to society. Through the stipulation of support services, independent living services, and employment may be integrated.

For clarification purposes, some support services may be included in that assistive technology to be made available for children in the public schools. This act has indeed helped the students they can be a part of society without feeling that they are any less than anyone else. Precisely being different or thinking different doesn't make you less worthy, it just means you have a superpower that no one else may have.

Individuals like Sady benefit from the progress made by the rehabilitation act of 1973 because despite her disability she was able to use her different ability to show the world about the use of accessibility for Apple and other companies. Her disability doesn't define her. Without the rehabilitation act of 1973, she would have just faced even more barriers, making it more difficult for her to achieve her goals. Without the rehabilitation act, many individuals like Sady wouldn't be known because there different. The rehabilitation act focuses on meaningful opportunities for employment in integrated work settings through the provision of reasonable accommodations ( (29 U.S. Code § 701 - findings; purpose; policy) .theron after the rehabilitation act of 1973 has been ma free a law, it gives Sady and other individuals the chance to not only prove to the world that she can do it but also give her the courage that she is able to do anything she puts her mind to. She may still need to face barriers, but now she is breaking the generational curses, and showing others to never let their past define them.

Reference for text: Legal Information Institute.

There was a time where many disadvantaged children both in elementary and secondary education. They were being left behind based on the standards of the education system. At the start of 1975 there was a law passed by congress called Education for all Handicapped Children. This law allowed for all the public schools that acquired public funding to allow children with intellectual and physical disabilities to receive access to education (Education for all handicapped children act (1975 - S. 6)).

As a parent with a child with an intellectual disability and an aspiring goal to be both a business owner and special education teacher and advocate; why do we have to choose. Why did we have to choose which students passed or didn't pass. Who received education based on financial funds. Shouldn't all students receive all the care and educational needs no matter there diagnosis.
This law set the stage for assistive technology to be available for children with disabilities in public schools, because giving the Kids and other individuals a fair a share at education would actually help them succeed. Giving them a fair chance to allow assistive technology devices to help them achieve their goals. It's just one step forward to better options at success despite different abilities.
Individuals like Sady benefit from the progress that is made by each law because it doesn't give them the benefit of the doubt. Instead it allows the individuals to believe in themselves and gain courage. That they can do anything they put their mind to. Despite anything that happened previously to passing the law. Just like Sady, if it wasn't for this law, not only accommodating and creating individual education plans, but also believing in them. In addition these students now have a chance to change the world.

Reference for text: H.R.7217 - 94th Congress (1975-1976): Education for All Handicapped Children Act.

Each time that we allow others to do something different that we don't normally see, we often say why are they different, why cant I use something like that. We believe that life gives us battles more than we can handle.
This law called technology-related assistance for individuals with disabilities act allows the department if education and the stated to come up with statewide programs in order to help individuals with disabilities receive technology related assistance.
In addition, this helps any individual regardless of any government funds to apply for the statewide program in order to receive the equipment needed in order to help them succeed.
This helps the individuals in public schools , for example if the family is low-income they are able to apply for the statewide program and still receive there assistance but may result in the ability of reduction to other assistance. " title shall be construed to permit the State or any Federal agency to reduce medical or other assistance available or to alter eligibility under: (1) title II (Old Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance), title V (Maternal and Child Health), title XVI (Supplemental Security Income), title XVIII (Medicare), title XIX (Medicaid), or title XX (Block Grants for States for Social Services) of the Social Security Act of 1973; (2) the Education of the Handicapped Act; (3) the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; or (4) laws relating to veterans' benefits (S.2561 - 100th Congress (1987-1988): Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals With Disabilities Act of 1988. In Sady's case for example she was born with cerebral palsy, but that doesn't define her. What defines her is how she defied the odds and still made it possible to be an advocate for others just like her out there. If she can do it, so can you.

Reference for text: S.2561 - 100th Congress (1987-1988): Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals With Disabilities Act of 1988.

The Americans disabilities Act was actually passed in 1990, but it didn't become effective until January 1992. The Americans disability act came to affect in order to prevent discrimination and also balance out the needs of accommodation for citizens in the public, and private settings.  The American disabilities is suppose to prevent discrimination. This law  when it came into affect as mentioned " physical or mental disabilities in no way diminish a person's right to fully participate in all aspects of society, yet many people with physical or mental disabilities have been precluded from doing so because of discrimination  others who have a record of a disability or are regarded as having a disability also have been subjected to discriminations Americans with disabilities act of 1990,as amended with ada amendments act of 2008)." As individuals becoming aspiring professionals what we can do if we witness it report it either anonymously, or provide your name, but don't ignore it.  Therefore in 2008 when it was amended, it has been corrected to say "to provide a clear and comprehensive national mandate for the elimination of discrimination against individuals with disabilities;

(2) to provide clear, strong, consistent, enforceable standards addressing discrimination against individuals with disabilities;

(3) to ensure that the Federal Government plays a central role in enforcing the standards established in this chapter on behalf of individuals with disabilities; and

(4) to invoke the sweep of congressional authority, including the power to enforce the fourteenth amendment and to regulate commerce, in order to address the major areas of discrimination faced day-to-day by people with disabilities (Americans with disabilities act of 1990,as amended with ada amendments act of 2008)."

The question that remains unanswered is how was this able to come true to provide technology assistance in the public schools for individuals. I believe the answer to that question is with the power of not only connection, but also with the community coming together wanting to change not only of those close to them but their family members as well. If this law didn't come into affect, and become amended do you think that there would still be discrimination out there for individuals with disabilities.

Individuals like Sady, because of her passion and dedication to be an advocate for those like her it provided a sense of admiration, dignity, respect that not a lot of people receive because they are seen as different. They benefit from this because it shouldn't even been allowed in the first place to have been discriminated no matter your race, color, or disability. Just because by skin tone , race, language we are different doesn't mean we should be judged because on the inside we all have the same blood flowing, platelets, and organs. We all deserve respect.

Reference for Image: Rosa Parks quote: "One person can change the world.". Quotefancy. (n.d.).

The individuals with disabilities education act was originated in the year of 1975 but was amended in 1990. Seven years later it was amended once again, your question may be why. It was amended again, because of new laws and legislations. "

Students with disabilities who exhibit less serious infractions of school conduct may be disciplined in ways similar to children without disabilities (including a change in placement) provided that the misbehavior was not a manifestation of the student’s disability.

IEPs are now required to state how the student with disabilities will be involved with and progress in the general education curriculum.

Transition planning now begins at age 14.

Regular educators became part of the IEP team.

Benchmarks and measurable annual goals are emphasized.

Assistive technology needs of the student are considered by the IEP team.

Orientation and mobility services for children with visual impairments are added to the definition of related services.

States are required to offer mediation services to help resolve disputes.

A variety of assessment tools and strategies are to be used in an effort to gather relevant functional and developmental information.

Students with disabilities are included in statewide and districtwide assessment programs or given alternative assessments that meet their unique needs (Individuals with disabilities education act 2020)."

The amendment of the law has actually become beneficial because when it comes to assistive technology in public schools because parents don't have to go out of their way to probably receive an evaluation for additive technology. Now as part of the school evaluation, the professionals will evaluate the needs of the individual to qualify for assistive technology.

For Individuals like Sady, they benefit from the progress of the law because of the advocacy of the individuals. If it wasn't for advocacy of the individuals, and restoration of the law, how it has affected other individuals and family members.

The amendment of the individuals with disabilities act 1990, previously, named Education for all Handicapped children act of 1975.
When the law amended in 1990, they also added "traumatic brain injury and autism to the category of disabilities (Individuals with disabilities education act 2020)." The additional transition to IEP I believe is very important because different individuals have coordinated activities, or a need to promote independent living or other training in order to help them in school, therapeutic services. "Other changes in 1990 required that an individual transition plan be created for each student no later than age 16. (Individuals with disabilities education act 2020)."
This law set the stage for assistive technology in public schools, by using the children's IEP that is provided to all the teachers that the student interact with in order to provide a easy flow for the children and there studies. In contrast, though the IEP transition plan according to this law when amended in the year 1990 was created for the students no later than the age of 16. Do you think that it should've started earlier or kept at the age of 16?
Individuals like Sady benefit today from the progress of the law because it gives her the access to find the tools that would help her access her different abilities. The point is to take down the barriers about her disability, its to open up her abilities. She is capable of believing herself and doing anything she puts her mind to.

Reference for text: 2020 individuals with Disabilities Education Act annual report to Congress.

As I stated previously that no child should be left behind, in this law being amended in the year 2004 they added various new legislations and laws, that will not only change the face of special education, but also increases the outcomes of instruction including early intervention.

"Added language from the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 regarding core academic subjects, limited English proficiency, and highly qualified teachers.

Created a 15-state pilot program in which states may develop and implement three-year IEPs.

Districts may elect to not use the “discrepancy formula” in determining if students have a learning disability. A school district may instead use a process called the response to intervention model.

The IEP planning teams must base services on peer-reviewed literature.

Student progress is regularly monitored based on written measurable goals.

Benchmarks or short-term objectives are no longer required in an IEP except for students who take alternative assessments.

Intelligence quotient (IQ) achievement discrepancy is no longer required for the determination of a specific learning disability.

Response to Intervention (RTI) may be used as part of the special education evaluation.

Transition services begin at age 16.

A student with a disability who demonstrates poor behavior may be moved to an interim alternative setting for up to 45 school days if the behavior involves a weapon, illegal drugs, or bodily harm, without the determination of whether the behavior is a manifestation of the disability.

Dispute-resolution system model for education was clarified.

Changes are made in special education eligibility and evaluation process." (Individuals with disabilities education act 2020)

One thing that I noticed between the amended laws of 1997 & 2004 is that the transition services changed from 14 back to sixteen. Is there a reason why the transition service changed?

The law set the stage for assistive technology to be made available within the public schools by giving the individuals the ability to progress by using reinforcement. Helping the children through the means of therapeutic means, mental health, and the help of the teachers and parents. With the use of IEP planning team, and the ARD review team, and the parents we can make it work for our children.

Individuals like Sady benefit from the progress made with each law because it gives others the ability to have a measurable goal, or a total that they can meet other the course of the year. If it's not met, then the goal will be amended just like the law.

Reference for text: 2020 individuals with Disabilities Education Act annual report to Congress.
