Who do you think is the red herring?! Remember, that at this point in the novel, we have Mr. Blore, Lombard, and Miss Claythorne remaining. Armstrong has disappeared, but his whereabouts are unknown. Think critically about your answer - reality may not be what it seems. ;-) --Miss McGraw

I don't think it's either of the three. The clues they were given were purposely misleading them, because they were all vouched for when one was murdered. When Justice Wagrave was killed, Lombard pointed out the obvious stating, “A damned clever double cross! That stuff was planted in Miss Claythorne’s room and it worked just as it was intended to. Every one dashes up there thinking she’s being murdered. And so - in the confusion - some one - caught the old boy off his guard.” No one would have been able to hear the gunshot due to the noise happening outside and inside. When Armstrong disappeared, Lombard and Blore searched everywhere, not finding anyone or anything. This may be why they think it's just them, however, it would be impossible for them to be in two places at once. The red herring has to be an outside force, causing them to go insane.

I believe the red herring is Phillip Lombard because throughout the story he has tried to convice everyone that he is thier friend and has built a connection with them so he wouldn't seem suspicious as stated in the novel “If Armstrong comes along and says that I’ve been killed, or Blore’s been killed, pay no attention. See? Only open your door if both Blore and I speak to you. Got that?” (Christie 188). This sentence shows how Lomard is trying to show Vera that she can trust him. Also, another reason why I think that Phillip Lombard is the red herring is because out of no where he just got his revolver back as shown in the novel when it states "then he opened the drawer of the table. He stood there, staring down at the revolver that was inside it..." (Christie 181). This statement shows how Lombard is the red herring because it's suspicious that he got his revolver back. Finally, I believe Phillip Lombard is the red herring because he has the skill set to do it since he is an ex-policeman as stated "Lombard shook his head. Miss Claythorne was screaming, the wind was howling, we were running about and calling out. No, it wouldn’t be heard. He paused. But that trick’s not going to work again. He’ll have to try something else next time” (Christie 179). This statement shows how Lombard is the red herring because he is analytic and smart which means he could be the red herring. -Miya Zheleznyak

I don't think that Armstrong is the red herring. But I don't think that anyone of them are the red herring either. Because they are all trying to find clues and stuff to figure out who the killer is and then they turn out wrong or someone else dies. I think that the red herring is Mr. Owen because he was the one that started the playing over the intercom and invited a lot of them there which is weird. - Kimberly Hazelwood

I don't believe Armstrong is the "red herring" but I do believe someone in that group of three is. Though they all work together I'm sure they have their own personal reasonings as to why they suspect that person. Maybe Armstrong just wanted to leave as stated in chapter 14 page 191 "There's one other little fact. A pane in the dining-room window has been smashed- and there are only three little Indian Boys" Perhaps Armstrong took some of the glass to defend himself or draw suspicion toward himself?...- Aysha Johnson

I think Lombard is the red herring because in the story it says he tries to convince Vera that Blore may be the killer although Blore is nervous to go outside alone and Lombard isn't nervous at all. Now that Vera is thinking Lombard killed Armstrong he asks Vera "Did you kill Cyril?" Vera also looked at Lombard when they found Armstrong's body and saw his sharp teeth and wolf-looking face after that he nastily states "The end has come!" Vera shoots Lombard and feels relief. -Kayla Bailey

I believe that there are two red herring in this novel. The two red herring I believe are Vera and Dr. Armstrong. As we know from chapter 15 Dr.Armstrong has diappeared and nobody know where he is at. Maybe Dr. Armstong is hinding from everyone and is killing them. Also from chapter 15 there is this one part where vera is lock up in her room. she is just there staring at her ceiling.... looking at this hook there, This made me believe that the author is foreshadowing that she is the last person to died. - carmen gonzalez

I believe that Lombard is the red herring because in the story he gets his revolver back in a mysterious way and when questioned by Bolore and how he should give it up he refuses. "Then he opened the drawer of the table. He stood there, staring down at the revolver that was inside it" (181). . The only fair thing is to put that revolver
with the other things that are locked up - and you and I will hold the two keys still. Philip Lombard lit a cigarette. as he puffed smoke, he said:
“Don’t be an ***.” “You won’t agree to that?” “No, I won’t. That revolver’s mine. I need it to defend myself - and I’m going to keep it.”
Blore said, “In that case, we’re bound to come to one conclusion.” Als he believes that bolre is the killer even though bolre was too scared to go outside by himself. - arleth garcia
