The confinement to just my bedroom and Kitchen view meant that I had to look deeper into what immediately surrounding me. The Hulme bridge which is directly in front of my kitchen window gave me a lot of inspiration. I took an image and vectorised it, from there I decided to arrange the bridge into different Letters of the alphabet. After that I wanted to create an animation that would bring my artwork to life. My aim was to create a fluid motion  in each transition letter by letter.

One of my favourite hobbies is swimming, to link this with my letter I decided to focus on pool tiles. I began with creating my tile shape, choosing a slanting rectangle to imitate the italic font style of my letter as well as mirroring the way that the water would refract and reveal the tiles when looking through the water.
When I started animating it, I wanted to use a motion that would allow me to create the same characteristics and flow of water. Using vibrations and springs to create a wave motion. The letter takes on two styles, shifting from Uppercase to Lowercase, for this transition I  created a splash effect.

I began by looking through typographic archives on websites and reading into the definitions of 'Letterform' + 'Letterspace' as a starting point. I then moved onto familiar websites such as Behance, Pinterest and Instagram sites which I always use when I am looking for inspiration for websites and branding. After that, I began playing around with sketches and vectors. I explored around eight of my original ideas, from animations to physical pieces using items that I could find in and around my home. Some of these were successful such as my Hulme Alphabet which I really enjoyed making. However, some ideas didn't achieve great outcomes such as the Hulme arch inspired McDonald's golden arch theme. 

Some of the things that I have learned from doing this project is just how much inspiration we have all around and so close to us. Before this project, I probably would never have explored into creating letterforms using foods, as I did with my tea grain letter. This gave me a new perspective into graphic design and just how unrestricted the art can be. 

For my overall theme, I wanted to focus on a way to incorporate the letter T using the theme of a Childhood memory. Out of all of my final pieces, my favourite work is my pool tile animation, I would spend weeks of the summer during my childhood at my great uncle and aunts house in Liverpool where they had a swimming pool. I used to be fascinated by the thousands of individual tiles that all seemed to blend into one. The feeling of a distant memory that almost seems to fade into black and white is what influenced my decision to go for a monochromatic colour palette for my final piece. I am pleased with my final result for the project although, without the constraints of using only two different colours in the brief, I would have liked to have incorporated more colours. Furthermore, I was hoping to combine my animation with more sound effects such as laughter to accompany my childhood memory theme.
