I was born and raised and currently reside in Bakersfield, California. I recently graduated from CSU, Bakersfield with BA in English and Communications. I am first of my family to pursue an MA degree. I've worked in a mostly unrelated field (food service) at a local hospital for over 13 years; I also have worked as a volunteer for my university library for over 1 year.

I didn't really know what I wanted to do after high school: I almost joined the radiology program at my college, struggled with the idea of being a teacher, have always wanted to be a fiction writer. I sort of just took a class here and there--mostly English since it interested me most, and I've always loved reading and writing. One year, I got interested in the stories of Jorge Luis Borges; and when I found out he was a librarian, I thought: Oh! That's it!

After figuring things out, I worked full-time and went to school full-time (the last two years I became essentially a single father to my two daughters). I looked into many programs, but SJSU seemed like the best way for me to earn my MLIS and keep my full-time work without having to move.

I love the jack-of-all-trades aspect to being a librarian, as I love being a student, a learner. As a volunteer at my university archives, I became more interested in the archival nature, though I think I'm still most interested in helping people and communities. Currently, I wish to work in an academic library, but I do love the important role public libraries have in communities.

I first read it back in 2004, and not a day goes by that I don't think about it. Two of my life goals (besides earning my MLIS) are to see the manuscript at the Rosenbach Museum in Pennsylvania and to visit Dublin during Bloomsday (a fan celebration that takes place every June 16, the date of the novel's events).
