Biodiversity is the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.

BIOME/REGION OF VENEZUELA:

The rainforest megathermal- found in low areas, abundant rain fall and high temperatures, trees taller than 60 meters high, rainy season lasts from 9 to 10 months

The tropical rain forest-mountainous areas between 1000 to 3000 meters high, average annual rainfall is 1600 mm/year, usually enveloped by a dense mass of fog, climate very cool and wet, foliage is evergreen all year, soil is rich in humus

Areas Tropophilous- vegetation consists of trees, usually allow penetration of sunlight, known a jungle forest

Xeric Zones- have low temperature between 0 and 10 C, hieght between 3000 and 4700 meters above sea level, soil is dry, rocky, and steep, strong winds, snowfall make area more rigorous in climate

Hydrophilic areas- temperatures very moderate, altitudes between 1000 and 3000 meters above sea level, mountain and rain forest vary by region

Tropical Savanna- flat areas, stable climate, average temperature, has period of drought followed by abundant rainfall

Ranking among the top 10 of the world's most ecologically diverse countries, Venezuela is suffering greatly due to environmental degradation. Environmental issues include sewage pollution into Valencia Lake, oil and urban pollution of Maracaibo Lake, deforestation, soil degradation, and urban and industrial pollution. Concerns also include irresponsible mining operations that effect and endanger the rain forest ecosystem. With a country this biodiverse it is important for us to acknowledge this and do something about it..

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT AND WE CAN WE DO?

In response to the issue things have been done for example their has been social missions and environmental aid. In more depth, federal protections for critical habitat have been implemented, for example 20% to 33% of forested land is protected. The country has a biosphere reserve that is part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves; five wetlands are registered under the Ramsar Convention. Things we can do about it are simple things like starting here at home and protecting the few environmental things we can, and even taking social trips down to Venezuela and helping out with whatever it is.
