He started talking about his family because he was scared/ concerned about getting kicked out of school, but because his family is a touchy area for him he moved on to breakfast, which was the first thing he saw. When he describes Tybalt and his death he sounds more like he is describing Allie than the actual character. He says how it was Romeo's fault for his death so maybe he holds self guilt towards Allie and believes it is somehow is fault. Holden talks about his father having money, but the fact that the investment in failing Broadway shows stresses his mother out raises the thought that they could be financially unstable. So with that in mind holden tries to give money to two people who he knows gives back to the poor and helps the unfortunate.
But then again he goes the a private school which cost money so i dont know. Maybe him failing so much and having to change schools is another money think.
