Ingredients:

• 1 cup dry beans

• 1 tablespoon olive oil

• 1 onion

• 1 tablespoon tomato paste

• 1 teaspoon salt

• 1 teaspoon black pepper

• 3 cups water

Instructions:

1. First, put the dry beans in water and soak them overnight.

2. The next day, drain and rinse the beans.

3. Heat olive oil in a pot.

4. Chop the onion and add it to the pot. Cook the onion until soft.

5. Add the tomato paste and cook for 2 more minutes.

6. Add the soaked beans to the pot.

7. Pour in the water, and add salt and black pepper.

8. Close the pot and cook for 1 to 1.5 hours until the beans are soft.

9. Serve with rice.

Simit (Turkish Bagel): It is a round bread covered with sesame seeds. Turkish People eat simit for breakfast or as a snack. It is very popular in Türkiye and often served with Tea.

Nazar Boncuğu (Blue Bead): It is a very common object for jewellery, decoration or gift in Türkiye. Turkish People believe it protects from bad energy or bad luck.

Kebap (Turkish Kebab): It is a famous Turkish food which is made from meat, usually beef or lamb. There are many types of kebabs, like Adana or Shish Kebab. It very tasty and popular around the world.

Türk Halısı [Turkish Flying Carpet :)] : It is handmade and colourful carpet which mainly made from wool, silk and cotton. The patterns are traditional and very detailed. People use it to decorate their homes or as a gift.

Keloğlan is a famous Turkish folk character. He is a young, bald boy. Keloğlan is poor but very clever. He solves problems with his smart ideas. In stories, he helps people and fights bad men. Keloğlan always teaches good lessons.

Materials:

• 1 short stick (about 20 cm)

• 1 long stick (about 50 cm)

Rules:

1. Dig a small hole in the ground.

2. Place the short stick across the hole.

3. Use the long stick to hit the short stick and make it fly.

4. Other players try to catch the short stick.

5. Players score points by hitting or catching the short stick.

Materials:

• A small cloth or handkerchief

Rules:

1. Players sit in a circle.

2. One player holds the cloth and walks around the circle, singing:

“Yağ satarım, bal satarım, ustam öldü ben satarım. Ustamın kürkü sarıdır, satsam 15 liradır.”

3. The walking player secretly drops the cloth behind another player.

4. If the player notices, they pick it up and chase the first player.

5. The first player must run and sit in the empty spot before being tagged.

• A handkerchief

Rules:

1. Divide players into two teams.

2. Place the handkerchief in the center of the field.

3. One player from each team runs to grab the handkerchief.

4. The player with the handkerchief must run back to their team without being tagged.

5. If they are tagged, the other team gets a point.

1. Two players are the “leaders” and choose secret items (e.g., “gold” or “diamond”).

2. Other players form a line and pass under the leaders’ arms while singing:

verirsin, arkamdaki yadigâr olsun,

3. At the end of the song, the leaders catch one player and ask which item they choose.

4. The game continues until all players are caught.

Mevlana Rumi was a kind and wise man. He lived a long time ago in Konya,Turkey. Mevlana wrote many poems. Mevlana also liked music and dancing. He also danced in a special way , called the whirling dance to show his love for God.

Mimar Sinan lived a long time ago in Kayseri, Turkey.He was an architect. He build many mosques , bridges,palaces in Turkey.

Aşık Veysel was a famous Turkish folk poet and musician. Aşık Veysel lived a long time ago in Sivas, Turkey. He was visually impaired. He played the saz. He wrote many poems.

Ephesus, had big and beautiful building's. One famous place is the Temple of Artemis. It was very big and special. Another famous place is the Library of Celsus, where people read books.

Ephesus also had a big theater. People watched plays and listened to music there. The streets were made of stone, and the city was rich and busy.

Today, people visit Ephesus to see the old building's and learn about history. It is a very interesting place !

Traditional Turkish archery reached the top at Ottoman Empire. Turkish archery is important with its clothes and equipments. The equipments are zihgir, sadak, kubur, çile and tirkeş. Lately Turkish youth like the achery. There are the series on tv for example: Tozkoparan İskender. Finally Mete Gazoz won the gold medal in 2023 The World Champion.

Turkey has many traditional dances. Here are three famous ones:

1. Teke Dance (Mediterranean)

Teke is a fast dance. It is from Antalya and Burdur. Dancers wear colorful clothes.

2. Zeybek (Aegean)

Zeybek is a slow dance. It shows respect and bravery. Dancers wear special costumes.

3. Hora (Marmara)

Hora is a happy dance. People hold hands and dance in a circle.

These dances are a big part of Turkish culture!

3. Mix and knead the dough.

4. Rest for 20 minutes.

6. Put beef inside.

Javelin is one of the sports played on horses. The player who is on the horse throws the javelin to rival. The rival must stay in balance and must control the horse. Especially javelin is played in Bayburt, Erzurum and Kars.

His uncle was Kemal Reis, a great Ottoman sailor, and Piri Reis started sailing with him. He also worked in the Ottoman navy. His most important book was "Kitab-ı Bahriye" which was about sailing and maps. In 1513 he drew one of the most accurate world maps of his time. However in 1554 (?) he was executed in Egypt by the order of Sultan Sulemian the Magnificent.

Stuffed Eggplant Recipe

Ingredients:

• 4 eggplants

• 200g ground beef

• 1 onion (chopped)

• 2 tomatoes (chopped)

• 2 green peppers (chopped)

• 2 cloves garlic (chopped)

• 2 tablespoons olive oil

• 1 teaspoon salt

• 1 teaspoon black pepper

• 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

• 1/2 cup water

Instructions:

1. Wash the eggplants and cut a small slit in the middle.

2. Fry the eggplants in olive oil until soft. Place them on a baking tray.

3. In a pan, cook the onions and garlic with some olive oil.

4. Add the ground beef and cook until brown.

5. Add the tomatoes, green peppers, salt, and spices. Cook for 5 more minutes.

6. Fill the eggplants with the mixture.

7. Pour some water into the tray.

8. Bake in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20 minutes.

9. Serve hot and enjoy!

Leyla Gencer was born in Polonezköy (near Istanbul) to a Turkish father and a Polish mother.

"Leyla la Turca" soprano Leyla Gencer is one of the artists who has been admired both in distinguished opera stages and in her recitals. Her opera repertoire includes 72 works by 23 composers.

She is known as "La Diva Turca", "La Gencer", "La Regina".

There are statues in Beşiktaş and Ankara.

She died in Milan on May 10, 2008.

He was born in Edirne on March 30, 1432. He ruled the Ottoman Empire for 30 years between 1451-1481. He conquered Istanbul on May 29, 1453. This event was accepted as the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the new age. After the conquest of Istanbul, he received the title of Fatih. He died in Hünkar Çayın May 3, 1481

He was born on the island of Lesbos in Greece in 1478. He was a sailor and soldier who was the first captain pasha and the 25th captain of the Ottoman Empire. He died in Istanbul in 1546.

Yunus Emre was born in Eskişehir in 1238. He is a famous poet and bard. Yunus Emre was the pioneer of  Turkish poetry in Anatolia in the 13th century. 1991 was declared the Year of Yunus Emre by UNESCO.
