It would be a good idea to get other folks involved that would have a far more likely chance of pulling in STEM funds for moving DIRT Lab forward. Nursing, dental, Public Health, etc. would be some good areas to tap into. It's also highly collaborative to bring Allied Health programs into the fold.

List of libraries that have been revamped as collaborative centers

There are number of libraries included in this listing (also Pierce College!) that have reconceptualized their library spaces to be collaborative spaces through color, texture, furniture, technology, etc. There is some of it that is specific to a library setting, but there is no reason why a study room could not also be a multimedia room or testing center.

I have attended this before and it is built on an unconference model, which means you show up with an presentation idea and folks vote with their feet. It can be a great way to solicit feedback from folks in the interaction design, design, information, and library fields. It has been rescheduled to February 2015 and is local. The attendance fees are usually really low, the even is highly attended, and there is lunch included.
