After that, Suang U told Mui Eng that Kim shouldn’t be spending time with Kim anymore, but Mui Eng completely refused that decision because she has a lot of work to take care of during the day. Suang U decided to move to a new place and leave his old customers to another businessman. During the day Suang U was moving his stuffs, Seng came and argue with Saung U, but he ended up less angry because Suang U explained how there is no reason for them to fight anymore.

Thus, Suang U complained to Mui Eng that he is upset, but this time Mui Eng stood up for herself. After a few months, Suang U encountered poor beggars and learnt about the things that greed make people do. This success make him a man that can support his first wife’s financially and can even keep some to involve in the lottery. That was when his mindset became more like a Thai. Kim started to buy lottery numbers that he got from random dreams hoping to win big money with little investment like Thai people usually do. Even though Kim and Saung U came from the same town and had similar lifestyles,  they changed their behaviours after coming to Thailand.

Kim was a worker the entire time he came to Thailand, so he started playing lottery hoping for one lucky day that will give him a good fortune.

On the other hand, Suang U works hard day and night to maintain his business because he is in a bigger position compare to Kim.

Feminist Literary Criticism fortunevivath https://padlet.com/fortunevivath/ewwww6qononjz6w4/wish/2827099696 By using Feminist Literary Criticism, we can identify two gender issues that tend to be associated with the strength of men oppressing women. The first one is Suang U's perspective that a son is better than a daughter in doing certain things.  As an example, Saung U spent the majority of his time assisting in teaching his son to master different things which are not only the lesson from school but also how to do business. From his point of view, his son had to be successful and good at everything the same as him.  If we look at his two daughters, both of them didn't receive this kind of treatment from Saung U. The reason is because they were born as girls, so there was nothing that Sung U had to care much about them. This shows us that men tend to be superior to women. Furthermore, Saung U's treatment forward Muy Eng when she was not able to bear any more children.  Falling in the bathroom affected her fertility and this issue made Saung U disappointed in Muy Eng seriously because he had no chance to have other sons anymore. As a man, he used his power to blame and show his disappointment to her without trying to understand her feelings as a mother. The first one is fear, in letter #32, we can see the fear came from Suang U. He was concerned about Weng Khim's safety since his son always went to the market and stayed with Kim and Champa all day. For some reason, he worries that Kim and Champa might not take care of his son as well as he did. Moreover, Suang U's desire for a son and kept on dreaming of having more sons than a daughter. It was because of the cultural values that made him believe that a son is better than a daughter.
