1). The tone is pitiful.
2). Victor feels guilty that Justine was found guilty and condemned to death for a crime his creation committed. Then, Elizabeth tells him that she hopes he believes in her innocence.
3). Victor is not a reliable narrator because he does not answer Justine's question and is also lying by hold back the truth.
4). This excerpt makes us feel sorry for Justine, because she is paying for someone else's mistake and her kind appearance has been tarnished. It also makes us feel anger towards Victor, since he could have saved her but decided to save himself instead.

Tone: Earnest desperation
What: Elizabeth proving Justine innocent by giving examples of Justine´s care towards the Frankenstein family and demonstrating the trust she had in her in regards to the necklace
Why: Elizabeth remains truthful and and sympathetic towards Justine to give the jury a true sense of Justine´s character. She sees her ¨friends¨ misrepresenting her and chooses to give a true testimony to save who she believes is innocent. Her testimony is reliable because Justine´s innocence does not benefit Elizabeth in any way, she tells the truth because it´s what she has experienced.

Tone: desperate,guilt, selfish.
1. The character says how he is feeling a lot of pressure on him and that he is relieved to hear that she confessed.

2. Victor told the story in a way that he is trying to draw sympathy to himself. For example: he said that he is under pressure and stress "I have before experience sensations of horror; and I have endeavored to bestow upon them adequate expressions."

3. He uses this to find an excuse and push off blame on himself by drawing sympathy.

4. From our point of view it just shows how pathetic Victor is, as he tries to convince himself that Justine actually did it, when Victor knows that it is the creature that did it.

1. Tone: toxic feeling of shame and guilt
2. While visiting Justine, Victor's thoughts are consumed by guilt, because he understands the consequences that came with his grave ambition, yet he still chooses to stay silent and allow Justine to giver up her life and innocence. When Justine talks, she does so in a calm manner, causing Victor to feel shameful, implying responsibility for his creation.
3. Victor's thoughts are unreliable because though he feels shame and guilt, his self pity makes him play the "victim" card, as if he's trying to forgive himself before anyone else can.
