Pose is a show that broadened my mind frame. This show discussed how things that are now "main culture" were culturally appropriated from the LGBTQ community. Yet, when the LBTQ community came up with the slang, elaborate makeup, and ball culture that we now take part in today, they are not considered "worthy" of doing these things.

This show took me to a new perspective because sometimes I forget that other cultures outside of black peoples can be appropriated. I knew that Native Americans and Hispanics have cultures that are appropriated but I did not think about how it effects the LGBTQ community as well. For example, the term "YAS Queen" is used all of the time and can be connected to originating from the LGBTQ community. Even when we look at some of the makeup techniques that we use now, some of these techniques can be tied to Drag Queens of the LGBTQ community.

Watching this video allowed me to see that Asians face much more bias than we are aware of. When thinking of bias or stereotypes towards Asians, people seems to go for the most common being that all Asians are super smart. Damaging as that stereotype is, this video allowed me to see and learn more about how Asians are truly viewed in this country and it is saddening.

With this post, it made me question one thing, why doesn't America view people that take the citizenship test as Americans? Why must they be classified as Asian American or African American? Why can't they just be considered American? Asian American people have faced many trials in this country including more recently the onset of the pandemic. This post allowed me to see just how bias can spread into generations of people and what it can do.

I try to be as aware and as unbiased as I possibly can be. Taking this test about religion and receiving my results honestly shocked me. It showed me that although I recognize the Jewish faith and other faiths, I still have a strong preference to Christianity. It makes me wonder how I portray this preference in real life. I understand that I am a Christian and because of this I believe so heavily in my religion, yet, after taking this, it made me wonder how I can be less preferential and more understanding an honoring of other religions.

In this dilemma it allowed me to see both sides of the argument about Thanksgiving in schools. Ultimately, I feel as though Thanksgiving should be taught in its fullness, and that it sheds light on history. I do understand that people feel as though this could take away from the togetherness of family and friends of this day, but I do not feel as though it would do this. If anything, it would show just how strong of people the Native Americans truly were.
