Spain was first split into 5 kingdoms and all the kingdoms were ruled very differently. They had a constitution that guaranteed their sovereignty and jurisdiction. The revolution started when King Ferdinand started following a reactionary policy. The constitution of 1812 was put together with other liberal leaderships.

The first unification of Germany happened in 1871 after Prussia's victory in the Franco-Prussian War. It was part of a the Holy Roman Empire. This empire had many other groups, including Italians, Czechs, Dutch. The second unification happened in 1990 after the end of the Cold War. Between 1945 and 1990, Germany was divided to east and west. They chose to unite with Prussia to form a single German state.

Abd al-Rahman III helped expanded the state of and became the first Spanish caliph. Semi-free peasants got grouped into towns ruled by elected councils. Monarchs granted special charters. They kicked out the Jews who didn't want to convert to Catholicism. The liberals abolished privileges and legal exemptions.

German princes created the German Confederation. The only federal one was the Confederate Assembly. They adopted constitutions in the individual states. Only in the states of southern Germany constitutions adopted. The Press and Fatherland Association, more than 20,000 people gathered at Hambach Castle and had a major national rally.

Italian unification happened because of the spread of ideas. The formation of the modern Italian state started in 1861 with the unification of most of the peninsula under the House of Savoy. Under the domination of Austria, these states started conservative veiws. Liberal failed and republican veiws took over in 1848, lead to passing of leader ship to Piedmont.

Camillo Benso di Cavour developed a railroad system. In 1857 Italian nationalists founded the monarchist-unionist Italian National Society. Most of the peninsula were under the House of Savoy. The northern regions were governed by the Austrian Habsburgs, the central regions by the Pope, and the southern regions by the Spanish Bourbon kings.
