Standardised assessment is one that uses uniform implementation and scoring procedures in such a way that students' results can be compared across a given population (Churchill, Godinho, Johnson, & Keddie, 2015).

In Churchill, it states that assessments comply with national and state/territory requirements. This ultimately means that the curriculum provides the basis that the teacher needs to teach, that the students need to learn. This in turn helps base the assessments that the teach will create. The assessments help the teacher provide a benchmark for where their students are at throughout the year. Teachers link back to the Australian Curriculum to confirm that their students are learning the correct content and helping with their teaching/learning capabilities.

Assessment is a vital and necessary part of all aspects of teaching. The curriculum integrates assessment and prioritises assessment as an explicit representation of how students understand and absorb learning intentions and content.

Assessment provides feedback on how the students are coping with content, it allows for the teacher to modify or change the content or activities to improve the overall learning of their students. This will allow for teachers to set learning goals that their students will be able to achieve, meaning optimal success. Assessment is an ongoing process that allows for communication between teachers and students.

Assessment Curriculum and Pedagogy, if even one of these is missing it will diminish the value of the process to the learner. All three are all linked, pedagogical principles that a teacher decides to teach play a significant role when assessment occurs in the classroom. Pedagogy focuses on the teacher-learner relationship. Both teacher and student should be able to discuss their feelings on the assessment and the teaching, the teacher cannot be the only one to judge the student. Therefore, in this relationship feedback is a critical move as it will allow for the learner and the teacher to improve their overall performance.

Assessment is an important aspect of education, it allows for the teacher to receive feedback on a learner’s knowledge, understanding, beliefs, attitudes, interests and needs overtime. This is critical information as it gives educators a specific guideline on what to teach this student and how it is to be taught.

Tutorial:Monday 4pm

Lauren Pryde

S00209205

Standardiised assessment is one that uses uniform implementations and scoring procedures in such a way that students results can be compated across a given population as defined in the textbook.

There are some benfits of this sort of testing. The first main benfit is that the students are able to see where they rank within a particular group. An example would be the HSC, it is a stanrdised test that all students in NSW participate in and they receive a ranking.

This sort of assessment also allows all students to be tested equally. This is because each student does the same assessment and has received the same learning from the curriculum.

Tutorial: Monday 4pm
Name: Amelia Asquith (S00204533)
