Being humiliated in front of a group of people can be a tough thing to deal with. Personally it is one of my biggest fears and as you grow older it affects the way you think as well as how confident you are. Being humiliated is never fun and is apart of life, but we should never seek to humiliate others.

Acting out in emotions is never a good thing to do. I wonder why seeing these three girls brings into question his future and where he sees himself, is he embarrassed? He assumes they are wealthy people just because of the items they are getting, but he has no idea if they really are. On another note, how on earth do these look good?

It is striking to me that although Armand can cope with not knowing where Desiree is from, he cannot cope with her mixed heritage. Even before he married her he was warned that her background was unknown. Regardless of the time period, is it safe to say that who a person is or the heritage they have should keep us away from them when they themselves haven't done anything to harm us? Armand's love is not true, or unconditional love, it is a false love.

Through the poem written, the narrator challenges the students to dive deeper into the poem to discover and explore what it really means. To be imaginative is all the narrator ask out of the students. But the symbolism of them beating the poem with a stick gives a sense that the students are looking for the literal meaning instead of what is between the lines.
