The name's Muhammad Ashiq bin Abbas. To talk about myself; well, technically i'm a proud Penangite.I was born and raised in Penang since day one. As the eldest in my family, responsibility plays a vital role for growing up. My Journey to Geophysics is on the cusp of Glory as i approach my 2nd Year. But, life wasn't the same as it is today. Well, u see, i started out my educational career as a student in Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Gelugor, which is said to be the oldest still existing Malay School in the entire South-East Asia region; Im quite proud to say that my journey there went pretty well as i manage to score 5A's in my UPSR examination; From then on, my legacy in education continues to the grounds of Penang Free School where i achieved greater heights in PMR and SPM examinations by scoring with flying colours. Until today, im still very proud looking back at my glorious past. To top that, I was also manage to become an alumni of the oldest institution in the entire South East Asia dated back to 1816. And then, things were starting to get even more challenging as i stepped into Matriculation, where i had to stay in hostel for the fisrt time in my life; to be honest, those years in KMPP was a pretty wild and captivating experience for me; Thank god for my result, i was offered to study in USM under the course of Geophysics, which was my desired course,till today; So, the real question is, why i choose Geophysics in the first place; well, let me tell you my story.....During my secondary schoolling years, i was soo into physics; i think the reason behind it is mainly due to my passionate tuition teacher who conducts the class soo brilliantly that let me to fall for physics; But then, i was also considering to puruse my working career in the future that offers demanding salary caps; So, after countles pages of web browsing, i learnt that the energy industry was the most demanding with careers leading to geoscinces were top on the list; After a brief discussions with my seniors, i found out that Geophysics was one of the major courses in the Oil and Gas industry; This was the key that encouraged me to apply for Geophysics; On the flipside, they aren't many Universities in Malaysia that offer this course; Fortunately, after reffering to the USM pamphlet, i realise, its the right descision to enroll myself in USM in the hopes of pursuing my dream as a successful Geoscientist; And thank god for that, i managed to get this course as my first choice; So, that is why i choose Geophysics as my career path, with the hopes of achieving my wildest dreams. First of all, here’s a brief description about who i am.  My name is Nur Alisha Binti Akram. I was born and raised in Pulau Pinang. When i was 16 years old,  i was parted from my family as i received an offer to study in SMS Muar, Johor. It was never in my dream list to continue my high school years in a school that is so far away from my hometown but i have to admit that it was one of the best decisions ever. I love travelling, I love blending in with different cultures. Since then i do have a knack for staying or living in a place that is quite far from my home or in simple words i prefer other states compared to Pulau Pinang. But now here i am doing my degree in USM Pulau Pinang , i guess God had a better plan for me. Why i chose Geophysics? Here’s a genuine confession. After completing my foundation in UITM i have to make the hardest decision ever, it’s either furthering my studies in medicine and become a doctor, which is my family’s request, or choosing geophysics which i am not sure what career that i can pursue. I honestly know nothing about this course but all i know is that i love nature and i want to pursue a career in what i love. I have no friends or relatives that can help me in this field. My ultimate savior is the internet of course. One of the major reasons why i chose geophysics is that i love travelling. Plus, Geophysics doesn’t focus on one field of study. There are so many interesting fields to explore such as Geology, Meteorology and many more. I am a National Geographic Channel enthusiast and i would love to know more about how nature works. Not to mention it’s quite rare and kind of cool. I guess that is why i chose Geophysics.

Im Nurin Hannah binti Ahmad Rizal, just call me Hannah for short. I was born in Sg Petani, Kedah and I lived in Kajang, Selangor for 18 years. During my school years, I hated boarding school so I never lived far away from my family (actually I didn't want to part from them, even an inch!) I just went to a nearby primary and secondary school, which are quite prestigious schools around Kajang. After completing my foundation studies in UiTM, I just realised that I have no future plans. All these time I just wanted to have fun studying and collect as many A's I can get. 

My parents really, really insisted me to become a doctor (uh oh so cliche) but Im not very fond of becoming one. Dealing with sick people and their attitudes everyday is not my thing. I'd rather deal with non-living things! 

Fortunately, my Aunty came and rescue my life. She suggested me to take Geology. So I made a little study about the career. To be honest I found it interesting. Geology is the study of Earth and I love everything related to our planet. Suddenly I day-dreamed myself of being one of the National Geographic's crew members, exploring the world, seeking for adventures...
High expectations indeed.

I was told that my grandpa's sister was a former Geologist. I heard that she traveled around the world a lot, doing researches and joined expeditions, which seems cool to me. I really hope I can be like her and it triggered me to take Geology as my future career.

Then, when I was about to fill in my UPU, I found out that there were Geology and Geophysics' courses. What are the differences? I was dumbfounded. To make story short, I decided to take Geophysics as my first choice in USM because it is the only university in Malaysia which offers this course. Other universities like UKM, UM and UiTM do not offer Geophysics but Geology instead. So to me Geophysics is quite rare and I like rare stuff.

In fact, USM is further from home compared to the other universities. I wanted to stop being a crybaby and live far from my family and become an independent daughter. I have to get rid of that bad attitude of mine. Those are the reasons why I chose Geophysics.

I still don't see where this career might bring me, but I wanted to take the risk and pursue my dream of becoming a successful Geophysicist. I wanted to try this 'rare' thing, which my whole family never had the faintest idea of what is Geophysics' all about. Okay , now i'll tell the reasons i chose Geophysics as my first choice . At first , i have no idea what major that i'm going to choose . Like the other parents , of course they want their children to pursue a good career later and the courses that 'only' have a bright future is either medic or engineering ( so cliche laa ) . I really want to get out of this field and mentality because i hate seeing organs , nerve system and so on . It makes me sick . So , i started to have interest in geology and found it interesting through my senior . Actually my senior is majoring in Geology . hahaha at first i thought it would be the same as geology which you can explore more about nature and have a lot of field trips but nahh it is quite different . Honestly i never imaging myself to be in this field. Since i was a children i always wanted to be a doctor or a teacher. Unfortunately, when i was in form 4 i just realised doctor is not my thing. Why? Because of this incident. On the day we have to 'operate' the frog. When i hold the scalpel, suddenly my hand become trembling so i cannot hold the scalpel properly and the blood also make me sick. Since then i know that i cannot be a doctor. After that i determined to be a teacher. After my SPM i apply for Institusi Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPG) for mathematic teacher and i was called for interview. I make it for the first phase of interview and i was called for the second phase interview. That time i was very confident that i will pass the interview and became a teacher. Unfortunately i failed . I was very very very sad. Not for long result for UPU was out. I was offered for diploma in mathematical science which is my first choice. I was also offered for matriculation in Pahang . Even i really really wanted to further my studies in mathematical science but i choosed matriculation instead of it. During my second sem in matriculation i am having a confiusion on what course should i take for my degree. Then i asked my friend's father who is petroleum engineer. He suggested me for this course. Then i googled about this course and its kind of interesting. What is really makes me wanted to be in this course is because of the field trip. After SPM, I'hv been offered to do foundation in law at UITM Shah Alam and also pure science at Kedah Matriculation College. Due to my interest in science, I chose to study in KMK. In KMK, I started to realize that i love biology and planned to pursue biotechnology for my degree. I'hv nothing to do after finishing my study in KMK so i did some research on what course to pursue for degree. Based on several articles and blogs i'hv read, i insisted in choosing geophysics. Here's are the reasons on why i chose geophysics instead of biotech. Firstly, geophysics has a huge potential in M'sia as only few people taking this course and USM is the only university in M'sia offering this course. Next, by involving youself in this field, you stand a chance to travel around the world as i love travelling 🤷‍♀️. Then, salary is also one of the reasons why i chose geophysics. I'm planning to go for O&G in the future. I'm a former Foundation student, I live in Selangor...
OK I'm going to cut to the chase..

During my school years I've always wanted to study further in astronomy. As ambitious as I was in that field, I've been told that it's difficult to go further with astronomy, not here in Malaysia. So I came into geology when I read several encyclopedias. Studying Earth instead of planets and stars, they sound kind of linked don't they? YES now I don't have to focus ONLY on astronomy anymore :D

So there it was, my exposure of geology begun :)

my first choice wasn't geophysics, pure physics was, since I thought it MIGHT link to astronomy too (?). Besides that, I LOVE physics (the theories, especially in astrophysics. don't like calculation anymore thanks to calculus.. hooray (sarcasm)) I got offered in both geophysics in USM and pure physics in UTM. Oh and geology in UM too. I was so certain that I want to major at least SOME physics in my study so I moved UM out of my choice, and I was SO ready to accept UTM's offer, but I was left a few more days to figure out so I didn't rush. My dad, he encouraged me to take geophysics instead, telling that how fun it'd be to learn something new, and not to mention going on multiple field trips.

Then I said to myself, why not giving geophysics a try? I mean, I WAS dreaming BAD that I want to study planets, but now I have geophysics RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY NOSE. I thought, maybe it's time to give a shot. I love studying Earth too. Yes I won't go far to the other galaxies and stuff but meh.. Besides, it can't be a promise if I major in pure physics I might've continue to astronomy anyway. So I thought about it, A LOT, and at the final day of the offer, I accepted geophysics in USM.

No I didn't regret not choosing pure physics, AT ALL. It was a damn close call, I don't want to go there now anyway. Who would've knew, I DID choose the right course :)

P.S., Can I give a credit to my dad?

After my matriculation life over, I apply to the UM, USM & UPU (other local univercities). In UPU I apply for Biomedical Science at UPM (It is my first choice & hoping to get it because I’m in love with BIOLOGY hehehe, unfortunately i do not get it). So when I’m browsing the USM pamphlets, I interested with FORENSIC SCIENCE because I’m growing up watching forensic tv series such as Criminal Minds, NCIS, Bones & etc. But then when I’m thinking about the future prospect in forensic science, there are not to much that I know so I’m just give up that choice. So here the story begin, I need to find something to replace the forensic science, & guess what? I found GEOPHYSICS.. I found a senior blog which influenced me to make this choice. From that blog I found out that geophysics always with adventure & outdoor which is my favourite. And every intake usually around 20+ people so I though that I will get more chance in term of jobs later on. That are the 2 reason I choose GEOPHYSICS (but sometimes I miss biology because I’m not good in calculating physics).

Hi,  my name nursyazwanee binti mhd fazdlee.  . People usually called me wanee.  My hometown in melaka but now i live in jawi, penang.  After spm,  i get matrix johor n diploma in science geomatic in remote sensing in Arau but i choose go to Arau because i not confident i can study in 1 year progm. In 3 years diploma,  many subject i learn such as cartography, astronomy, geodetic, GIS, photogrammetry and remote sensing. I choose geophysic because  i major in remote sensing in my diploma,  so i get internship in school of physic . So,  i want continues my study in remote sensing that applied in meteorology,geology and ocean.  So, in 4 month my internship, i kown little bit about geophysics and i had follow master student and pak akob do some resistivity at bukit around the batu feringgi. In my intern,  i get many knowledge, before this i just process landsat image using erdas imaging software only but at usm,  i learn how to process data by using PCI geomatica and also i try to process UAV data by agisoft photoscan software.  So I realize i love playing with spatial data. During my secondary school,  my dreaming is i can work with NASA.  I don't know why,  i love NASA so much. Maybe i like natural disasters like earthquake, volcano eruption and tsunami. But,  after my internship,  i  apply geophysics in usm for my first choice for saja saja because i dont expecting i get it because usm is not calang calang university.  My CGPA in diploma and my muet also not good as compared as my Classmate that they get mostly 3.5 above. The  main reason I choose Geophysics is because I really want to travel and  fell the adventure. Since I was small went people asking me what is my ambition I really don't have the idea....because since I was small I'm just fell I want to work with environment  but not in the office...but while I was in high school I get to know about Geologist working scope from a magazine that I read..At that time I fell the Geologist was an interesting work..so I wanted to be one of them... 
After my SPM..my interested toward Geologist are little bit change when I'm thinking about the job opportunity for Geologist. So I started to search for the the new  ambition that quite similar to Geologist and I found the Geophysics.  Since that I get to know about Geophysics...
Now I have be in the USM to further my study in Geophysics..and I happy with that...lastly I hope I can be a Geophysicist and travel around the world...

After finished my diploma in science studies in UiTM, i applied for Geology in UM, dietetics in UiTM and Geophysics in USM (because I'm JUST wondering about tsunami activity ) and was HOPING to get Geology in UM and guess what ? I did it ! But again.. I got tested when my parents didn't allow me going to UM because it is too far from them. Fortunately, I also got Geophysics in USM. So they prefer me to choose USM instead of UM. I worried to take this course because i am not good in calculating hmm but I just bear in mind to trust His plan for me. Alhamdulillah after 1 year in this coarse, I feel geophysics is really INTERESTING. I learn about Earth, rock and never felt any regret for choosing this. I hope to learn more about geophysics and know about tsunami activity soon (hehe)
