They lost their German citizenship in 1941. The Franks took shelter from the Germans in July of 1942, they went to hide in concealed hiding rooms behind a bookcase in the buildings where Anne’s father, Otto Frank, worked. Until the family got arrested by the Gestapo on August 4, 1944. Anne recorded all of these events in a diary she had received for her birthday.
