Post #2 Red Flag: Confirmation Bias (Video)

Definition:

The red flag confirmation bias is when one uses their pre-existing beliefs to collect or interpret information in way to confirm that belief. Example past experiences affecting future decisions.

Connection:

This video has to do with confirmation bias because it talks about how people still think the world is flat even after there is proof that it is not. This shows that people who believe the world is flat will find any or all information to prove their pre-existing point.

Post #3 Red Flag: Appeal to Authority (Video)

Definition:

The red flag appeal to authority is using quotes or information from people of authority to prove your point instead of using real world evidence. Using a scientist or doctor to get a point across.

Connection:

This video is an example of appeal to authority because it reviews the topic of climate change and how people use information from the new and other sources about it being a huge factor in today’s world. Yet, this video exposes that because it shows that there is no real evidence because most of the worries addressed by scientists have yet to be proven.

Definition:

The red flag ancient wisdom is the thought that treatments or beliefs must be right because they have been around a long time. Example Alternative medical therapy.

Connection:

This picture has to do with the red flag of ancient wisdom because the Mayan’s believed that the world was going to end in 2012 from a calendar that was made thousands of years ago. This is considered ancient wisdom because they used that very old calendar to predict future world events.

Definition:

The red flag of suppression by authority is when someone of power or a group with power limit or stop the production or teaching of something that could help civilization.

Connection:

This video is an example of suppression by authority because it shows that many scientists have found a cure for cancer but people are wondering why they have always been hidden, this also is a conspiracy thought up by most of the general population.

Example: People believing in the Loch Ness monster.

Connection: This image demonstrates the unexplained belief because it displays the Loch Ness Monster. Being close to something/someone can skew our judgement or rational thought.

Connection: This video demonstrates the emotional connection belief because it shows a connection between a robin and her lost son. This connect was made because she wanted to believe that her son was still around, her rational judgement was distorted because of her emotional connection.
