Examine at least one musical example in Ratliff’s playlist in detail – how does it exemplify this musical concept? Find at least one musical example outside of Ratliff’s playlist and justify its inclusion – how does it exemplify this musical concept?

Ratliff uses bass-baritone singer, Andy Bey, who has sounded like a transmitter in about everything he has done since he entered his mid-'50s. Ratliff states that Bey was a great solo singer and could accompany himself on a piano. One of his best works were his slow-moving love songs because of the fact "you will take him plain, as his own sound, or not at all, and he ends up giving you more than you came more". This exemplifies transmission because he gave more than what was needed.

I agree with Ben Ratliff argument regarding transmission because of the fact that transmission is somewhat a necessity in music because in order for the audience to connect with the artist, there has to be emotion and in order to give that emotion the performer needs to give more.

Transmission in music is giving more than you need. If there is an extreme form of emotion in music that transcends specific moods, it is called a state of transmission. Transmission is a motion, the musician gives the transmission and the listener receives it. Ratliff states that some singers tend to go transparent in their voices and become property of other forces.
