When I went through reading the ten tips to branding you resume, I thought about my own resume in regards to how I made it. If i were to work with a client who is having trouble landing the career they want, this seems like a great resource to help them stick out among other interviewees. The tips they suggest seem to be modern and going in a direction of creativity. Maybe a few decades ago, everyone wanted the most professional and sleek resume because it meant they were classy and top of the food chain. Now employers want creativity and people that stand out among a crowd. I especially thing the things to avoid sections was primarily important. Writing a resume is pretty simple since the information is readily available but knowing what not to do is something many of us do not take into consideration. I appreciate the tips and would most definitely use it with a client if they were interested.

However, I would personally not use this resource with clients because it is entirely too long for them to stay interested to read it. It would be better for the career counselor to use this as a resource, synthesize the information in a concise way, and then share that information with the client.

It is too long and they would not want to read all of that. You can compare it to having to read a chapter for a class which is not what the client would want.

I feel that this resource has a lot of good information that would be useful for a client who is a little lost on how to successfully write a resume. I like that there are explanations and definitions to make what they're talking about clearer. However, there were some points where I felt they could have focused more such as the "Things to Avoid" section. That deserves more detail in order to emphasize and clarify what's considered to be "right," in my opinion. The resource is pretty lengthy so with a client I would probably point them in the direction of the pages that best match their needs instead of expecting them to sort through all of that information.

I think that this resource would be very helpful with a client that is struggling to create a strong resume. It is pretty lengthy, but the information is pertinent. I remember having to write my first resume and I was super overwhelmed, so I got help from my uncle who is a recruiter. His job is literally to look at resumes and decide who the best candidate is. He helped me realize that there is a LOT that employers look for in resumes and that it is important to spend time and effort to make it stand out. While I probably wouldn't just give my client this resource to read on their own, I may use it to pick out some key areas that I've noticed they struggle with on their resume and help them enhance those.

I think learning the concept of gratitude is something that everyone should do. Being grateful makes you humble. This resource is short and sweet. It reminds me of a creative intervention that a counselor could use if the client was coming to the counselor with issues of not being grateful. However, I do not think a counselor should offer this straight up because it has the potential to offend a client and create tension in the therapeutic alliance.

I enjoy the positive intentions behind this resource. It's short and sweet. I think it's cool that they have an "action" section where you can write down things you are grateful for and begin practicing being mindful of that. The only thing that stands out to me (coming from a non-directive play perspective after this summer lol) is where it says, "Praise is THE way to motivate others." Praise is helpful but it is also good to come from within. Encouragement may have been a better term. Besides that, I enjoy this resource and its focus on gratitude. This could be helpful for a client who struggles with taking note of the little things and enjoying them without stressing about the future.

At first, this resource seemed like it would be an easy and simple activity to give a client. Once I started reading it though, it seemed kinda sketchy. There are several grammatical errors and it just doesn't seem like something I would want to give to my client. Although the thought is there, I think that there should be more to it than just Gratitude. Like some others said, a client may take offensive to it thinking you're assuming they aren't grateful. If I were to ever use this, I may bring it in after exploring some acceptance and stuff first.

-I appreciate the purpose of this document because not everyone follows the “typical” stages of career development at the ages that are suggested in the career diamond, any many people have several entries into new professions, which can feel overwhelming that you my not be able to compete with others for jobs who may have more experience in the field than you. The document is a bit extensive so can look like a lot to go over at first, but if you go through each “tip” slowly and thoroughly and only cover a few of them each session, rather than all at once, it may be more helpful. I would use the list of the 10 tips as reference for a client but wouldn’t necessarily read the entire document to them.

From the title alone, I am hooked because I love gratitude and think it is such an effective tool to use to reframe negative thoughts and change your outlook. I was curious though how it would be relevant for career counseling.

After reading it, some may be skeptical of it for being maybe overly optimistic, but I don’t think so! I think that mindfulness really plays a big part here- accepting each moment as it comes and being grateful for it and not judging it as either positive or negative, but everything being a learning experience. In my first “grown up” job after college, there were days that I was miserable sitting in a cubicle not speaking to anyone for 8 hours a day, however I tried to make a conscious effort to remain grateful that I had a steady income and benefits in order to pay all of the bills, and I knew that it was a learning experience and a stepping stone to where I would eventually end up, and look where it led me! So yes, I would definitely use this for clients.

Linked In Tip Sheet critique

Personally, I have never completely bought in to the whole Linked In thing and I am not convinced that it significantly aids in helping someone get a job. I have had a linked in profile, but I didn't really think that it did much. With that said, I think that this is helpful to provide a concise document of ways to improve the effectiveness of linked in. If a client has linked in, then I would suggest some of these tips to them, but if the client does not already have a linked in, I wouldn't push it.

I found these tips on involving others as references very helpful! I wish I would have this sooner and considered providing people I have used as references with a resume so that they would be more knowledgable about where I am at and my experiences.
