1.How does the environment contribute to the negative effects on the infrastructure in the Philippines?

In the Philippines they are prone to getting Typhoon's. Typhoon's are a tropical storm in the region of the Indian or western Pacific oceans. These storms affect the infrastructures in the Philippines because their homes aren't stable and can get wiped out due to the storms. On average, eight or nine tropical storms make landfall in the Philippines each year, with another 10 entering Philippine waters. In 2013, only six storms have affected the country. The worst year was 1993, when 19 cyclones pummeled the coastline. Eight of the top 10 deadliest cyclones to hit the Philippines had a death toll reaching between 1,000 and 2,000 people. The deadliest storm on record was Thelma, which killed around 5,100 in 1991. Authorities fear as many as 10,000 people have died in Typhoon Haiyan (known in the Philippines as Yolanda), which would make it the Philippines’ deadliest storm ever.

Cited evidence

Because of the unstable homes and infrastructures the constant storms (Typhoon's) ruin these peoples home especially if they do not have enough money to first off build a stable home, but to rebuild and put together the ruins of their old home.
About half of the Philippines’ 88 million people live in rural areas. Poverty is most severe and most widespread in these areas and almost 80 per cent of the country’s poor people live there. Agriculture is the primary and often only source of income for poor rural people, most of whom depend on subsistence farming and fishing for their livelihoods. In general, illiteracy, unemployment and the incidence of poverty are higher among indigenous peoples and people living in the upland areas. Overall, more than a third of the people in the Philippines live in poverty. As you can see its not as if a little percent of the Philippines is affected by the environment, but its almost all of it. This means that the whole country is at stake.

cited evidence

3.Why does Corruption in the Philippino government effect the people in the country?

It causes taxes to go up but end up having inefficient implementation of road and traffic rules and lack of a flood control system to prevent themselves from Typhoons which is a major problem in the Philippines. negative impact of corruption on economic growth, some researchers continue to argue that the effect of corruption on growth is context specific and associated with factors such as the country’s legal and institutional framework, quality of governance and political regime. They conclude that, in some highly regulated countries that do not have effective government institutions and governance systems, corruption can compensate for red tape and institutional weaknesses and “grease the wheels” of the economy. The corrupted government is also one of the factors as to why the country is so poor.

cited evidence

Part 2: 1. Why is the Philippines prone to natural disasters?

There is 5 reasons to why they are prone to so many natural disasters:
1. Warm Ocean Waters
Located just above the equator, the Philippines faces the western Pacific without much else in the way to take the force of storms before they make landfall. Those warm, equatorial waters power storms, about 20 typhoons a year. "It has the warmest ocean temperatures in the world. We call it the warm pool around Indonesia and the Philippines," says atmospheric scientist Colin Price of Israel's Tel Aviv University."You need temperatures above 28°C (82.4°F) for typhoons to form. In the western Pacific, the water's normally above 28 degrees," Price says.

2. Coastal Homes
A lot of people live on low-lying coastal islands in the Philippines, with more than 60 percent of the population living in coastal zones,

Storm surges for landfall of Super Typhoon Haiyan reached 23 feet (7 meters) in some places and were more than 16 feet (5 meters) high.

Those waves rolled over low-lying parts of populated islands such as Leyte, home to the coastal city of Tacloban, where the BBC estimates more than 10,000 people alone died.

3. Deforestation
In past typhoons, mudslides have killed many storm survivors in the Philippines.Hillsides denuded of trees have fewer roots to hold them together, which can lead to mudslides when they are hit by sudden huge outbursts of rain.Deforestation has caused similar problems in places such as Haiti, where mudslides were triggered by rainstorms. The soil clogged waterways, causing stagnation later linked to cholera outbreaks.

4. Ring of Fire
On top of everything else, the Philippines rests on the Pacific’s earthquake and volcano Ring of Fire.

Driven by the Pacific's Ocean's crust diving underneath the continents, the result is earthquakes and tsunamis striking the Philippines with regularity. A magnitude 7.2 earthquake last month killed 222 people, for example, on the island province of Bohol.
5. Underdevelopment
The young, poor population of the Philippines has increasingly shifted to coastal regions, where rapidly constructed housing and inadequate evacuation plans may have played a role in the Haiyan disaster.

Indeed, reports are now emerging that people died in shelters too weak to withstand the storm surge and high winds of the super typhoon.
Over the long term, the Manila Observatory says that the combination of poverty and population shifts puts the Philippines among the Top 10 worldwide nations at risk of coastal flooding.

cited evidence

A lot of Filipinos are complaining about the poverty that the country experiences, and the blame is usually put on the government. Likewise, people point to corruption as the culprit of unemployment, hunger, and insufficiency in the quality of life of the people. As a result, Filipinos of today feel so helpless to the point that they cast hatred towards corrupt politicians and sadly, even to fellow citizens and the country as a whole.
Recognizing what’s wrong in the Philippines is not a bad thing, but it becomes a problem if we don’t act towards making the country better. But how will we do that? Are going to rallies enough for our voice to be heard? Will our comments on social media platforms add substance to the conversation or are they simply spurring unhealthy and immature arguments among other citizens?
Uplifting the Philippines should begin with transforming our mindset about the country and being proactive towards taking care of it.

Somethings an ordinary citizen can do to help
- Vote wisely
- take care of the environment
-support entrepreneurs

There is not much you can do for this country.

Cited evidence
