Pei Shan Liu was my grandmother who passed in February. She had 5 children, including my mother who was her full time caretaker in her last years. She insisted on giving me a red envelope and fruit every time she saw me. She loved watching soap operas and eating pizza. She was an expert Mah Jong player and didn't even need to look at the tiles sometimes (she just felt the grooves of the tile) to make her next move! Even though she was a tiny woman, her laughter would reverberate around the room. We miss her dearly. - Maggie Leung

"Busto" was my dear friend who passed away too soon at the age of 44 in 2014. A brilliant lawyer, loving son, friend, brother, husband, father, and just an awesome human. He was so kind, funny, and had this vibrant energy that made everyone who met him fall in love with him. Mark possessed a deep love for people with a gift for including everyone through his actions and deeds. He was an avid surfer and loved the ocean so much that he changed his entire life to ensure he would surf as much as he could until the day he died. He also loved to travel, was a big foodie and Lakers fan. He leaves behind an amazing daughter and wife who are just as kind and loving as he was and lives life to the fullest with humor and grace. We love you and miss you, Mark. I hope you are surfing on a gorgeous beach in Bali. Sending you so much love.

She was such a beautiful person inside and out. She was that typical Mexican tia that wants to feed you the minute you walk in her house and it didn't matter if she had worked a long day or not. She was always willing to listen without judgement. She was the type that did not like to just sit down even if you were having a conversation she had to keep busy but somehow she still made you feel like you were the main focus and she was truly listening to you. Kim was my dear friend and mentor, and tbh without her stage acting class - I would have never met my life partner of 20yrs. Kim was an accomplished stage actor, producer, and director of countless productions in the Sacramento, CA area and retired as a tenured professor of theatrical performing arts at Sacramento City College. Over the 5-6yrs that we lived in Sacramento, Kim only cast me & my partner J twice as love interests during classes - both were from Frankie & Johnny in the Claire de Lune. Kim passed just recently so it's still hard to type that. I miss you, and I'm forever in your debt for all the love you brought into my life. ~ Rosie Buada

John Fadden Kahionhes was a legend in the most profound sense of the word. Fadden's knowledge of the history and culture of the Haudenosaunee was sought out for documentaries and films, and he was included in documentaries by the Discovery Channel. PBS, National Geographic, and others. In his later years, Fadden worked as a consultant on the hit series Outlander.

Over the past seven decades he, more than any other person, gave a visual sense to the resurgence of Mohawk culture. His thousands of etchings, illustrations and paintings marked our emergence from decades of oppression and humiliation to a greater understanding of our identity as complex, creative and highly intellectual human beings whose scientific, technological, political and ecological wisdom has affected the world.

In his work Fadden broke the shell of servitude and brought back to light the remarkable, glorious and powerful history of the Mohawk Nation, the Rotinosionni (Haudenosaunee) and indigenous people as a whole.
