SUHAN RAJ WEEK 1 UPDATE

1. Hello, my name is Suhan Raj, A167987 is my matrix number and the date is 30/07/2021 (i cant change my padlet main name sorry!)

2. I have watched the videos provided by the university and did notes on criminal profiling methods

3. Points to remember from week 1 are even though criminal profiling can be useful, its not very accurate in depicting criminals involved in crimes that rarely take place or criminals involved in a common crime like murder but done in a strange way. For example the DC sniper attacks in 2002 which almost all expert profilers, from self-taught all the way to FBI trained did not even come close to the offenders that did those terrible murders because the modus operandi of both killers were very strange.

4. I have been very intrigued with how the criminal justice system works so now being able to have an opportunity to learn makes me excited for whats to come

5. 1 good thing i can do now is i can take the comprehensive and meticulous approach used in criminal profiling to better aid me in finding a diagnosis to a patient

6. So far i dont beleive i am having any difficulities as the 1st week of the course has just began and the 4 methods to criminal profilling of which 2 has been focused a lot is not too much information

7. Fun. Curious

8. Next week is everything related to eyewitness memory so the plan is as the same as this week, watch and understand the videos, do notes to ensure i am clear on everything

1. Hi! My name is Sharveenraaj A/L Maghalingam (A168501) (27/7/21)
2. I proposed to join a class for my elective posting. The class is about Understanding Human Needs and Relationships. I have been attending the class according to the time frame given by coursera and currently I am in my week 2 of the lessons. I watched videos, answered quizzes and also read the materials given.
3. Points that I can remember from the lessons of my week 1 is that what is human needs and what are the needs in a relationship, accepting biodiversity in a relationship, differences between humans are actually common, differences do exist in people and embrace those differences and make it a positive thing by having acceptance and curiosity. I was also able to understand the core of why problems arises in a relationship. (this started on the week 2 of my lesson).
4. On the first few videos I started to question "What am I even learning?" but as the class progressed I was able to understand and relate it with a few events that happened in my life and the people around me. I feel so overwhelmed whereby we think that we know it all but actually there's more to it. My thought is that hopefully by indulging myself in this class I will be able to see the bright side on how to solve a relationship problem whether it's friends, family and many more.
5. I am able to relate and reflect the things that I learned. Whenever a problem in a relationship occurs a misunderstanding to be exact I can learn to identify what are the needs that re not being met. This is known as a problem translation.
6. Difficulties is that I was not sure and excited as I began this class compared to when I proposed in attending this class to gain knowledge. As time passed by I took break and I took time to actually understand what I am getting myself into. The answer was simple I stopped complicating my thoughts that this course will be very technical and complex and it turned out to be really fun and interesting.
7. joyful, interesting
8. I wanted to continue following my lessons as usual and I want to see how I can extract the few lessons I learned and make into an impactful video.

1. Greetings, my name is Pavitha A/P Muhanthan, matrix number GA04012.
Date : 28th July 2021 (Started week 1 from 21st June - 27th June)

2. What have you done?
- My elective posting project is on a Herbal Medicine course on Coursera. It's a course that provides basic knowledge on the therapeutic properties, safety and efficacy of evidence based herbal medicine that can be incorporated in the field of medicine safely. The course is fully online and I have started the course based on my proposed date and the course's timeline. Each week there are videos on the given topics for me to watch, reading materials and a quiz at the end of each topic . I covered the introduction to herbal medicine in week 1.

3. Points to remember from week 1!
- The class on week 1 explained a brief definition and history of herbal medicine. I also learnt how are botanicals (the other name for herbal medicine)
different from pharmaceuticals as well as the pros and cons of these alternative approach.
There was also a subtopic on how to know when it's appropriate and safe to use botanicals, as well as how to evaluate and select research sources to ensure the herbal medicine's efficacy is evidence based.

4. Your feelings & thoughts
- The reason why I chose this course over the rest was because I have always been curious to know if all these herbal medicine and alternative medicine ads that we see online or that our families have been practicing for generations actually work. And upon completing week 1 of the course, I still feel curious to know more. The professor conducting the course also explains things in a relatable way which makes the learning process fun.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!
- Before this I would completely be against any form of alternative medicine but now I am more open to listen to anyone suggesting or promoting it. There may be some truth to it. Also I am now able to identify good sources to read before deciding if it is trusted based on the tips provided in this course.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
- During week 1 I was overwhelmed with information and I thought I would forget but the time I had to answer the quiz but I decided to watch the videos provided twice to properly understand and remember better and managed to answer the quizzes provided with ease.

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
- interesting and eye-opening

8. Your plan for next week (Week 2)
- I will continue the course and also start making my own notes and plan early on how I want my video to be.

I have currently completed the introduction to the course and am halfway through the first module which was on what mental health is and factors that can affect it like risk factors (discrimination, trauma, abuse) or protective factors (financial security, supportive family). There are six modules in total. There were content materials and videos to go through.

3. Points to remember from week 1.
It’s important to understand what mental health is in order to begin to understand the various stresses, risk factors and protective factors that can impact an individual’s mental health. It is also important to understand what kind of risk factors can cause an individual to be more vulnerable to mental health issues that may result in self harm and suicide. This can provide me with a foundation that I can use to progress to identifying individuals who may be experiencing poor mental health.

4.

Hi! I am Elora, A162653. It is the 1st of August and I am in week 2 of my Elective Posting in Masterpieces of World Literature. This is the summary for week 1.

2. What have you done?

I have studied the birth of world literature, Goethe and The 1001 Nights. Refer to uploaded pictures for a summary of week 1.

3. Points to remember from week 1!

Goethe and The Birth of World Literature

Goethe’s poems are astonishingly beautiful and rich in textures. His character itself however, is highly questionable. It is very anticlimactic to learn that the birth of world literature is credited to a white man who was obsessed with orientalism. As a result, I have obtained a newfound appreciation for literature that comes from anywhere other than the West. Prior to this course, I have been an avid reader of the Western classics written mainly by English and Russian authors and it made me realise how narrow my scope of world literature is. There are in fact a lot of classics that withstood the test of time which came from other parts of the world.

1001 Nights

Arguably one of the most popular and influential piece of literature is the 1001 Nights. I would like to focus on the topic of authorship in this text. 1001 Nights is a collection of stories from the Middle East compiled during the Islamic Golden Age. What is most interesting about this work is that there is no single writer as it was the work of various authors and translators spanning across centuries and geographical locations such as the West, Central and South Asia, and North Africa. In fact, the most popular stories in 1001 Nights, Aladdin and Alii Baba and the Forty Thieves were not part of the original text but were added afterwards by Antoine Galland, a French translator.

4. Your feelings & thoughts

Goethe

I have a lot of mixed feelings on the character of Goethe himself. He took full advantage Eckermann, his student and worker in a sense, by using his free labour. His fascination with Persian, Chinese and Indian literature is quite reminiscent of the average Caucasian male's obsession with all things orientalist. It feels demoralising that the conception of world literature had to begin with the acknowledgement of a white man. However, it is thanks to Goethe’s fascination with orientalism that world literature began. Other than that, I would like to further understand poetry and its technicalities. Goethe’s prose is ravishingly beautiful and the way he paints the lush green landscapes in his poems is breath taking.

1001 Nights

This module gave me a new perspective on authorship. Who does the 1001 Nights rightfully belong to? Is it the merchants and storytellers of the Middle East or the famous French translator? As one of the most influential work of literature, it is extremely fascinating to understand that the work belongs to not one singular entity but as a whole. I believe that this an accurate work of world literature in the sense that the geographical and demographical details of the authors were scattered throughout the world and time in history.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!

I have obtained new perspectives on literature which has changed the way I enjoy art as a whole. I believe that literature and music, in particular, are inextricably linked together. Now, I am much more attuned to the lyrics or prose in music. I will use Taylor Swift as an example. Taylor’s most recent albums, Folklore and Evermore are stuffed to the brim with literary references ranging from Robert Frost to Emily Dickinson. Reading Goethe’s poems reminded me of Taylor’s depictions of nature such as “Gold was the color of the leaves when I showed you around Centennial Park,” and “Long limbs and frozen swims/You’d always go past where our feet could touch.” The passage of time is shown through the change in seasons in the songs and I find her new direction in writing as immensely refreshing and is what the Internet would call cotttagecore. Appreciating nature in literature and music is not a new groundbreaking concept but it is only now that I can come to fully appreciate it.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

This course requires much more of my time, energy and concentration than I had expected. Before taking Medicine as a degree, I had very seriously entertained the idea of pursuing English Literature as my degree. After starting this course, I can appreciate how Medicine does not have as extensive coursework as literature does. Studying literature requires me to produce original thoughts and to engage in the literature texts in various perspectives. I attempted to cope with the difficulties by following the study guide given by the course in order to not get overwhelmed. So far, it has been effective and I am benefitting tremendously from this course.

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Complicated but fun.

8. Your plan for next week (Week 2)

Week 2 will focus on Candide, Lu Xun and Elieen Chang.

IAN'S ELECTIVE POSTING PROGRESSION - WEEK 01

Mastering Guitar Language
Week 01 - Introduction to the Guitar

1. Name, matric number, date
Hi everyone, how are you guys getting on? Hopefully you guys are safe and enjoy our semester break. My name is Muhammad Azlan bin Agustiar (A167568) and this is the update about my elective posting progression week 01 (August 1st, 2021).

2. What have you done?
I started my elective posting this week last Tuesday (July 27th, 2021). For my elective posting, I choose to join a guitar learning course. I enrolled an acoustic guitar lesson from Yamaha Music School conducted by the LS Music Sdn. Bhd. The sessions should be done face-to-face at their centre but due to rising COVID cases, my instructor agreed to do it online until the 'right time' he thinks we should make it physical lessons. To be honest, I am quite shocked on how this school take my lesson seriously. I remember the moment I send my EP proposal to them, they tried very hard to find the nearest and the best instructor that can fit my free time. In fact, they agreed to make a 2-month intensive course into one-month super compact intensive course — well of course with more classes per week.

3. Points to remember in week 01
This week, I learned the most basic things about guitar. I was introduced into different types of guitar, 'anatomy and physiology' of the guitar and guitar maintenance and care. It feels like I entered my preclinical years back but at least the guitar strings are not as complicated as our brachial plexus though. It just there are too much things to remember and surprisingly they have a quiz every week for the lessons they made. I attached some of my instructor sheets that I need to study. These quizzes are meant to get the final certification when completed the course later.

4. Feelings and thoughts
From the bottom of my heart, learning a guitar is not as easy as I thought. It is totally different when we learn guitar or any musical instrument formally compared to we learn it by our own-self. No wonder why my younger sister quitted her piano lessons before. It is not as simple as ABC and even the musical guitar chords are not arranged alphabetically (E2A2D3G3B3E4 - Do Re Mi Fa So La). At first, I personally think it is the easiest type of learning as we can see many people can play guitar well in the social medias and Youtube. But reality is far more beyond our expectation. Nevertheless, I will try my best to complete this course and can't wait to play my new guitar and learn new guitar chords or perhaps learn a new song.

5. One good thing learned to practice
What I learned in this course is that to have patience on doing something. Like in medicine, we learn little by little from the biomedical sciences before apply it clinically in the ward. It is also applied when learning the musical instruments. We can't jump from one part to another. We have to master everything simple before playing the instruments to produce lovely sounds.

6. Difficulty and concern
My only concern is my lessons were conducted online. I still can't imagine how I learning to pluck my guitar with my instructor listening it via Zoom. Ironically, this method reduces my awkwardness and stress when meeting new people. It also helps me a lot in building a good relationship with my instructor.

7. Two-word to describe EP progression
BE PATIENT

8. Plan for next week (week 02)
My lessons next week will be on guitar theory and basic guitar chords. I will watch some videos on Youtube to be more prepared. Hopefully it will be easier than this week.

1. Your name, matric number, date
Hi, my name is Abdullah Harith bin Azidin (A167553) and today is 1st August 2021, (1st week).

2. What have you done?

I am doing online course from Udemy about drawing It's called The Ultimate Drawing Course - Beginner to Advanced. This week I learnt the basics of drawing. The content includes lines, shapes, form, shadowing, perspectives and many other stuffs. I also did a pre-test on how to draw an eye, for a comparison when I finished the test later, where I will draw again to show my improvement. Other than that, I did some practice on shadowing, contouring, creating landscape and characters from simple shapes , and finally practice on perspective examples (1-point and 2-point perspectives). I uploaded one of the drawing I made this week.

3. Points to remember from week 1!

All basics form of art and drawing can be created from simple shapes and forms. Every sketch can be simplifies to simple shapes, lines and forms, and from that we can add more details to make the drawings more defined and complete. Other than that, shadowing and contouring is very important to make the drawings more realistic. Correct and precise shadowing will give the sketch better 3D effects which is important for realism. Finally, in every drawing, especially related to landscape and buildings, the perspective must be correct to produce better result.
All of these points can be improved with practice.

4. Your feelings & thoughts

I find it is very fun and therapeutic to do drawing and sketch. It made me reminisce the memory of me drawing various stuffs during primary schools. However, I also find it quite challenging to draw a good art and it made respect artist more as I understand the effort and talent needed to produce a good piece of art. Despite that, I feel grateful for choosing this course because I like the process and I cant wait to learn drawing new things nect week.
5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!

I learned that copying and watching other person is a basic steps for learning new skills. Instead of directly trying to come up with new drawing, I should focus on practicing from following others drawing tutorials from the internet. This also applies to other skills that I will learn in the future, including clinical skills.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
My main difficulty is to concentrate during sketch. However, I could manage and cope with that by allocating and dividing time to shorter period to allow my mind to relax. Other difficulties I encountered is it is very hard to get a new ideas and create an original drawing of mine. Fortunately the instructor has told it's normal to face this as I am still a beginner. After more practicing and experience, I believe the idea to sketch will come easily later.

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
Exciting and imaginative

8. Your plan for next week (Week 2)

I will continue the course where I will learn to draw more specific stuffs such as human head, human body and drawing in perspectives for landscape. I will also search for other tutorials to draw other things to widen my drawing experience.

Points to remember from week 1

I learn that you need to be on your best behaviour when you’re doing something that involve with the public as we will meet variety of people.

4. Feelings and thoughts

During the first few days, I find it very tiring as I need to constantly waking up early in the morning and as HUKM PPV is a drive thru one, I need to be constantly on my feet. However surprisingly it is one of the things that I was happy doing during my 3rd year as I get to meet a lot of friendly people. Every time the day finished, I feel eager to go back the next day.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now.

I learned to feel okay whenever I make mistake. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

My concern is how I want to handle a difficult client at PPV. As we were involved with the public, we were exposed to different kind of people. Some of them were very rude to us without any reason.

(image above is my own summary of notes from the online course)

1. Your name, matric number, date

- Hello again to all. Hope everyone's doing good.
Name : Pavitha A/P Muhanthan
Matrics No. : GA04012
Date : 8th August 2021 (Did my week 2 from 28th June - 4th July)

2. How is your progress?
- In week 2, the course was starting get a lot more interesting. I was learning new things and words that I've not heard before and it somehow pieced together the previous bits and pieces of knowledge that I had on botanicals. The learning objectives this week delve deeper into the characteristics of botanicals as well as other aspects to consider before getting or recommending a botanical to patients. To be specific the topics consists of contaminants and adulterants, how do botanicals interact with pharmaceutical (drug-herb interaction), special patient population to consider, the difference between FDA and 3rd party testing, how to find reliably tested botanicals and also how to shop for botanical.

3. Points to remember from week 2!
- I think the main thing from this week that stuck in my head is "natural is not equivalent to safe". Botanicals if not used properly and as indicated it could be harmful to the consumers as well. For example, some botanicals could induce toxicity. We were given a case of a 64y/o woman who had persistently high blood pressure and low potassium regardless being compliant to her medications. Upon further history, it is known that she loves consuming licorice candy. Licorice can help ease mild GERD however if consumed without control it could lead to increased blood pressure and hypokalemia.

It's also important to know a patient's past medical and drug history because in certain conditions such as immunocompromised patients or pregnant patients it is best to avoid botanicals. Also both pharmaceuticals and botanicals are metabolized in the liver with the same enzymes, so it could reduce the effectiveness of the pharmaceutical.

4. Your feelings & thoughts
- So far I feel motivated to continue with this course. At first it was a little tough to stick to a routine of taking an online course daily. I did slack off one or two days because something else came up but compensated the classes I missed on another day. Also the quizzes are getting tougher but still manageable. I am looking forward to the upcoming weeks because there will be more interactive activities.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!
- One thing I learnt this week that I can actually apply in my life is how to shop for botanicals. I learnt that a trusted reputable botanical would not have extreme claims, and the sentences used on the label would also be different. I also learnt it's important to look up the contact given on the packaging of the botanical to ensure it's from company that actually exists and to cross check any citations provided. Hopefully with these steps, I can explore more botanicals that I can incorporate in my life.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
- The main difficulty I faced during week 2 was, a deadline to complete the week 2 assignments and quizzes and I had finals that were postponed to that same week but I managed to plan out my schedule around it and being in hostel that week helped with that.

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
- New and exciting

8. Your plan for next week (Week 3)
- I have completed week 3 of the course, so my plan is to update the padlet task for week 3 and I will start arranging my storyboard for the video so that when we get the finalized format I would not have to start from scratch.

Sharveenraaj Maghalingam (A168501) Week 2 Progress

EP WEEK 2

1. Your name, matric number, date
Sharveenraaj Maghalingam (A168501). I am back with an entry for week 2. Entry date : 8th August 2021 (Sunday). Time of entry : 1:38 am

2. How is your progress?
My progress on week 2 is going good actually. I have been learning much more exciting things. I didn't find hard to be adapting to the technical terms that I have been seeing in this course. I am actually loving it and kinda grateful to get into this course regarding human relationships. As of now I am way pass my week 2 classes and already in week 3. I actually am starting to understand the flow of this course way much much much more better than the previous week.

3. Points to remember from week 2!
As a proof that I am able to understand the technical term in this course. I would like to introduce the term social script. Social script is a unspoken rule that the society follows. Rules on like "Who should make the call for paying?" or even "Who should plan on things for a date?". Technically this is what we call a script and when someone goes out the norm for not following the script they deemed to be weird and not following the rule (social script = unspoken rule. See it's a rule that nobody knows how it came to and nobody knows why they even follow it, even so myself) Maybe you do to, you never know hehe. Then again different societies have different scripts, western culture has a different script when we are to compare it with Eastern culture because a social script depends on socio-cultural environment as well as many other various factors.

Next, I learned that first impressions are important cause to some people the way we dress, the way we portray ourselves does give an everlasting impact on someone else. Probably you have to give first impressions for your own benefits. It's not wrong to give a good impression. Even the way your tone of voice sounds, the way you smile will be taken into count as first impression. Many of us thinks that the way we dress neatly is how we can give a everlasting good first impression but there are many more to it.

Self confidence. Is also important. Let's say we are meeting someone maybe for a meeting with client, a date or anything that is important. It's normal for us to feel nervous cause it's the normal human thing to do but how can we be confident in ourself is the question. How? Give positive false statements to ourselves. Say that we look good, we got this, it's nothing just a small matter. Hence by giving this this statement it does help to give us a boost a confidence. Better example? Let's say we are entering a new competition and you know there are many other better competitors than yourself what happens to your confidence? It tends to get a little shaky doesn't it? So how we can give ourselves a boost? Give positive false statements keep telling to ourselves that we got this, we can do this and we are the best and no one else. In a way it helps to boost your confidence and lifts up your spirit.

4. Your feelings & thoughts
I feel that what I learned in week 2 is actually helpful and applicable in real life situations. I without knowing growing up have done positive false statements for myself and learning this just made feel like "wow I been doing this and I been telling others to try this out by giving the name fake confidence. Hahaha well now I know". Besides that I was actually very excited to learn more on this course and even as I am typing now I can't wait to go more in this course and give updates on week 3 and week 4 because I went through the list of lessons and they are exciting topics varies from range of communication, reception, how to build and manage relationships, termination of relationships, transformation of relationships and even a specialised lesson about managing emotions and breakup journey.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!
Work on my first impression skills, work on self confidence. These I can work on. As for social script I am unsure of how can I practice it because it just happens when we are communicating with people and building relationships we tend to follow certain unspoken rules by society. What are the rules? I would not know realise it until the very moment that I am building a relationship with others but at that point I can reflect on my actions on why I am doing this and so on because that can most certainly be a certain social script that I am following.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
As far I didn't have any forms of difficulties in this course.

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
Superb and fun

8. Your plan for next week (Week 3)
I have started a little bit on week 3 and I will continue through it. I was thinking of brainstorming ideas for my EP project because I chose to do video. I was thinking of starting to do drafts on contents, ideas, storyboard, a script for the video and maybe look up on ideas how I can edit my video at the end to make it fun.

My matrics number is A167929 and today's date is 8th August 2021.

2. How is your progress?
My progress for second week is going very well as the course is getting interesting. I have finished my module 2 for 2nd week and there are 4 modules left in the course. I started to understand the course much more better than my previous week.

3. Points to remember from week 2!
I learnt that worries are one of the most important external factors that push someone to have poor mental health. Worries are classified based on how we perceive it and overcome it. There are many ways to cope with worries and knowing it is very essential for mental fitness. One of the best way of coping worries is cognitive strategies.

Next, I also learnt that emotional and behavioral consequences of a person are not directly caused by events that triggers it, rather they are caused by how we evaluate the events. Negative emotions and irrational behaviors are consequences of irrational beliefs which lead to inappropriate actions.

Last but not least, cognitive restructuring helps a person to practice new and helpful thoughts.

4. Your feelings and thought
I feel good so far as the course is very interesting as they use illustrations, case studies and various analogy that helps me to understand the content better.

1. HI!! I'm Shridha Nair (A172221) here to update my progress for week 2. It's the 9th of August 2021.

2. How is your progress?
It's going good. I finished the little I had left of Module 1 and managed to complete Module 2 as well. I feel like it was a productive week for me. This week's module was mostly understanding stress, it's impacts and how to overcome stress efficiently that it does not negatively impact our lives.

3. Points to remember for week 2.
I've honestly just been marveling about how powerful the brain seems to be. The fact that it has both the power to push us to success or to render us hopeless is both astounding and scary. A very important thing I've learned about stress is that we can't pretend it's not there. It's natural for us to feel better when we try to bury our stress. This just builds a pit that grows deeper making it an even bigger hole to deal with. Thus, it's important to learn to acknowledge that the stress exists. This self awareness then allows us to question the reasons behind how we are feeling so we may the restructure our thoughts to make us feel better about our stress.

4. Your feelings and thoughts.
To a certain extent, I feel okay. The syllabus in this course is straight forward and easy to pick up but it leaves you with a lot to think about. A lot of reflection and exploring yourself is encouraged in this course which honestly makes me do the same. I spend quite a bit of time after absorbing the course material just thinking about how this affects how I think about myself and the challenges that I face on the daily. It's interesting how I can apply the things I'm learning into my personal experiences.

5. 1 good thing that you can practice now.
One skill that I found very useful was self interrogation. It's interesting to realise how quickly the mind is able to spiral through 50 different things in the matter of minutes. This makes it easier for us to impose our own beliefs or perspectives onto things that are objective. This makes us susceptible to stress as we tend to overthink based on our past experiences. So, one thing I have learned is to interrogate myself and challenge my own beliefs or opinions to figure out why I am thinking in a certain way. This allows me to see whether the way I feel is the best possible way to take something or if there is a different angle I can see this from. This allows me to restructure my thoughts.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
I initially had trouble digesting some material as I had opposing views. One of the components in the material talked about changing the way we think and how our thoughts are in our control. I don't really agree. It took me some time to read it over again to come up with my own opinion of what I thought of it and why I still don't agree. Thoughts are spontaneous and very difficult to control. They are sometimes reflexes conjured by our mind based on previous experiences, cultures, principles or values. We shouldn't have to control them sometimes or blame ourselves for thinking a certain way. That does not define you. How you feel about something does not make you who you are but what you do or think with that feeling after that is what makes you who you are. So, it's okay to think bad thoughts sometimes. It's how you act after that's important. Bad thoughts do not make you a bad person.

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
Contradicting. Insightful.

8. Plan for week 3.
To complete Module 3.

1. Your name, matric number, date

Hi! I’m Syafiqah Samat (A163239). Today’s date is August 11, 2021

2. How is your progress?

My progress in learning keyboard is going smooth and good then before. So in week 2, I learnt my first scales which is the C major scale. Like previous lesson, I learned how to play a 5 finger scale. But in week 2, I need to complete 8 tone scale!

3. Points to remember from week 2!

We have 8 notes in total but we only have 5 fingers. So we need to learn a fancy way of tucking my thumb. First, I learn by using only my right hand. When using my right hand to play, I need to rotate my thumb under my finger to play the F note. Things are a little bit different when I come back down the scale. Instead of tucking, I need to rotate over the thumb to land on the E note with my 3 finger.

Then on left hand also the same. Then, after I already okay with right side and left side. I try to play with both hand simultaneously.

4. Your feelings & thoughts

In week 2, I feel more comfortable playing the keyboard. It much easier then before eventhough the new lesson a little bit challenging which need to use both hand to play.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!

So for me, a beginner, scales will help me to become more comfortable moving around the piano and help me to develop the fine motor skills in my hands to be able to play any music that I want.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

Playing this scale, especially hands together a little bit difficult for beginners like me. So the only thing to improve is PRACTICE! To master this scale usually it can take days but sometimes weeks. The reason it is difficult is because I need to change fingering at different times. But with practice and time, it becomes easier.

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Enjoyable yet challenging!

8. Your plan for next week (Week 3)

My plan is to master the C major scale then move to A minor scale and add some emotion to my playing. Wish me luck!

1. Your name, matric number, date
My name is Toh Chei Ying (A166904), today's date is 11st August 2021.

2. How is your progress?
As mentioned, last week I learned about open strings which are GDAE. This week I had learnt about presses at open string D in order to produce the E, F# and G tone. Besides, the teacher also teaches me how to adjust the tune with a fine tuner.

3. Points to remember from week 2!
Practice more about the open strings. Because it is the basics of playing the violin. Besides, we need to always check the tuner by using the soundcorset application to make sure it produces a correct tune.

4. Your feelings & thoughts
I feel it is very challenging and fun at the same time. It is very challenging to learn a new musical instrument especially via online platforms. This is because we need to learn a lot of new things besides playing the instrument. For example, we need to have the before hand work, such as adjusting the tunes of the violin, wiping the bow using the rosin and so on. However, it is also fun for me as there all are something new for me.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!
Become more consistent and practice constantly. Learning a musical instrument is really a challenging thing as we may feel frustrated when we are unable to reach the target after many practices. However, we will be able to play the violin well if we put more effort, energy and time into it. Hence, I believe hard work will always pay off, as long as we keep on practicing hard and thus, we will definitely achieve our goal one day.

6. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?
Like what I had mentioned last week. Having online classes is kind of challenging because the teacher is unable to show us the correct technique of playing the violin. Besides, the classes might be delayed due to some poor internet connection.

Besides, I always arrange time to practice more by using a soundcorset application in order to adjust the correct tune. Moreover, I had to buy an online data package in order to make sure the internet connection is always good.

7. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far
Challenging and fun

8. Your plan for next week (Week 3)
I will continue my online course and practice more on the skills. Besides, I will start to learn other tunes in week 3.

How is your progress?
I am on sechdule, did additional notes as well based on this week's videos, pdf of notes is shown above.

3. Points to remember from week 2!
This week was all about eyewitness recollection. It is a very complicated topic to say the least. First point is that memory reliability is quite low, that is memories are subjected to wrong time-slice error and narrative construction which can create false memories. Second point is, the confidence of an eyewitness on his/her memory is not related to the accuracy to his/her memory. That is, a person with a false memory is proven to be more confident with a person with a true memory. The third point is it is very easy to manipulate the memory of person for example exposure to misinformation or even a use of a weapon will render an eyewitness memory questionable. The forth is the methods that can be used to invoke a more accurate memory such as the usage of forensic hypnosis and cognitive interview

4. Your feelings & thoughts

I am very happy and excited with the content of my course. My thoughts on this course this week is how maliable a person memory is.

5. 1 good thing from what you did that you can practice now!
I can use methods used in cognitive interview to help my friends and family to help them remember if they ever lost something

6. Any difficulties/concerns?
IAN'S ELECTIVE POSTING PROGRESSION - WEEK 02

Mastering Guitar Language
Week 02 - Guitar Theory and Fundamental Guitar Chords

1. Name, matric number, date
Hello everyone. My name is Muhammad Azlan bin Agustiar (A167568) and this is the update about my elective posting progression week 02 (August 13th, 2021).

2. What have you done?
In the second week of this course, I finally had chances to play my new guitar. Yeay!!! I bought a semi-acoustic Yamaha FGX800C guitar from the LS Music Company during their online sale 7.7 and my pretty babe arrived two weeks ago. I gave her name Black Queen. My instructor taught me how to read guitar notes and play it as the chords on the guitar. This week, I have learned few basic guitar chords such as C, Cmaj7 (i love this one - the easiest chord ever), Cmin, D, Dmaj, G, Gmin and etc. Unfortunately, playing my little babe miss Black Queen is not as easy as she look like. I hurt all my left fingers when practicing. The guitar strings are hardly to press and hold and a little bit to much for my virgin fingertips. Thank God they are recovering now and more thickening day by day.

3. Points to remember in week 02
When playing a guitar, it is important to recognize two major guitar techniques. First is finger-style playing (plucking the strings one-by-one) while the other common one in amateur guitarist is strumming-style playing (plucking the whole strings together with a strumming pattern). Strumming pattern is how you will swing your right hand that holding the guitar pick and usually a single pattern is used throughout a song. For example I love to strum in pattern of down-down-up-up-down. Other than that, I also learned putting my fingers on different guitar fret board can produce a similar guitar chord. Fret is division of the strings - acoustic guitars usually have 21-22 frets. For example, there are 14 places where you can produce C-chord and according to my instructor, there are some more but if he teach me, that might also come out in my weekly quizzes too.

4. Feelings and thoughts
Oho haha. Again I regretted learning guitar because it is so painful and numbing my fingers but I felt energetic again once I mastered pressing and holding the strings gently. I feel even more excited when successfully play a complete happy birthday song in strumming pattern. It might sounds funny to some people but for me, it is quite a big achievement so far. When you can finally complete a simple song, it actually triggers you to practice more and more. Now, I am learning a new childhood song called My Bonnies Lies over The Ocean using the fingerstyle playing. My instructor also said that I can choose my next song to be learned if I can play this song by the end of this week (Friday, 13th).

5. One good thing learned to practice
There are two things I learned this week. First, theoretically how to play a guitar and produce a beautiful melody using different playing technique and second, the beauty of a music when you tried very hard learning it and finally able to make a cute performance. Now I know why most guitarist I admired like Scrubb, Stamp and even sweet Taylor Swift love their guitar so much. The guitar helps me to blend in with the melody of the music and it really calms me down each time.

6. Difficulty and concern
Like last week, my concern only focuses on my lessons that were conducted online. It were not that hard actually but not practical. Sometimes I am not sure if my instructor really heard the correct chords or not in addition with the internet connection that uninvitedly unstable. One more thing is that, my practicing time is limited since I cannot play the guitar at night or else I might disturb the nearby neighbors. Nevertheless, we should use all chances and opportunities available when learning during this pandemic era.

7. Two-word to describe EP progression
Your SONG and my MELODY

8. Plan for next week (week 03)
For next week, I will choose a song to be played during the evaluation that shall be conducted during week 04. I already survey some simple songs (including My Heart will Go On) and now trying to make the suitable strumming pattern and chords with my instructor. I really hope I can play a beautiful song by the end of this course.
