SIN ~ Josephine Hart

To be perfectly honest, I started reading this book to get me out of a slump that I`ve been experiencing. I chose it because it`s short and I wanted to finish it quickly. It did not go as expected though. The languange, it being written in an older english, made it a bit harder to read, but what impacted my experience the most was definetly the storyline. It was touching a lot of heavy subjects and it seemed like a book that would make a great subject for psychology students, to study the human brain and the main character`s, Ruth, motives. Having, from birth, a personal vendetta against her adopted sister, Elizabeth, Ruth acts irrationally 99% of the time, praying on her "fake sister"`s (as she calls her) downfall. Could her life have been better, had she not kept obsessing over her sister? There`s no way to know that, but one can only imagine what would have been. In the end, it seemed like Sisyphus(Ruth) was left without his rock, without a sense of self, the one-sided battle finally coming to an end in the last chapter of the book. It`s clear that not having who to obsses about, Ruth was left without a purpose. It`s a complicated book because it shows how complex people`s minds are and how difficult it is to escape a toxic cycle. Being in the main character`s body when she is the abuser, not the victim, is an interesting change from other books that portray the other side of the story.

Two can keep a secret ~ Karen M. McManus

It seems that Karen McManus is for sure my favourite writer. I can never guess who actually did it, she know how to lead you on, she manipulates you constantly into thinking that someone did it, always someone knew, only to reveal at the end that you were very far off and once again she tricked you. In this book, a set of twins move back to their mother`s hometown, somewhere in Vermount. That city hosts an annual festival where a few girls have previously gone missing, one being the twins` aunt. The twins are trying to solve the mistery of the missing girls, finding new clues and new leads that constantly go nowhere, till one eventually makes them find the true killer, but it is too late, because he has also caught on and is trying to silence them. With a surprising ending, I gave this book a 5 star because it was really entertaining and although I absolutely despise when people use modern terms and things in a book, such as the characters using Snapchat, because it feels very cringe when authors try to make it #relatable, I did not mind it that much because it was worth cringing sometimes to finish such a good book.

Travelling - Good or bad? ~ Cristina Ștefănuță

The topic of ethical tourism and what mass tourism and obliviousness does to the tourist attractions is very familiar to me. My 12th grade dissertation was about whether the negative effects outweigh the positive ones when it comes to travelling. I took as good examples The Yellowstone National Park and Disneyland in Anaheim. The conclusions shows that, even though the economical boost that tourism creates is a big advantage, the damage done to places and local communities is not worth it. Moreover, when a place was created by nature, the negative effects are much more troublesome, because when something is man-made, the way you made it, you can replace it when destroyed by careless and selfish people, but nature will not repair itself if we don’t start caring a bit more for it. In the end of my thesis, I wanted to restore some hope in everyone, by putting some ways in which we can travel while not hurting the places and the local communities. Since then, I have become more aware of my effect on every place I visit, so I try to take my own advice, breaking from the “pope” status (do as I say and as I do 😊). Now I encourage everyone to try and be mindful to these details when travelling and to be as eco-friendly as possible.

Report

Introduction The aim of this report is to compare and conclude which of the two companies (ERS and Worldwide) is the one that provides a better opportunity for relocation to Sydney, Australia. Findings Both of the companies offer a complex accommodation search and also a thorough school search that helps place kids in local schools. Although it helps with the unchallenging relocation of the kids, ERS does not include a service that employs partners in the new location, but the company can find you experts who can help relocate your pet. On the other hand, Worldwide company does offer partner employment services, but provides no help with pet necessities. That being the only aspect that the package Worldwide offers, it puts ERS at a disadvantage, as it doesn’t provide integration programmes either. Both offer help with visas and work permits and also removal and shipping assistance. Conclusion It was agreed that, due to a better percentage of the needs being covered, and also offering greater help with partners rather than pets, Worldwide company is a better option for relocation. We would recommend them when relocating.

Trips of the summer 2024

The only thing that is keeping me motivated is thinking about the plan for the summer. I have chosen to take the last exam of this session on the 21st of the June. Then, before the retake exam session, me and my boyfriend are going with his parents to Warsaw, Poland. His mom, nicknamed Mimo, likes a rock (I think) band and they are having a concert in the begginning of July and my boyfriends parents will go to the show while me and him will try to visit the city. In the begginning of August, hopefully, me and my boyfriend and our friends will go to the sea together. We planned to go to Costinești because I never got to go on a friends trip to Costinești and I did not want to miss out on being young and going to the sea with your friends, by train, on a budget friendly trip. Next, the most important trip of the summer, late august to september, me and my boyfriend will be going to 3 cities to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. We are landing in Paris, then we are taking a train to Rotterdam, where we are visiting a close friend of mine that moved there for her studies, and finally, we take a train to Bruxelles and then fly back home. And not to worry, the itinerary is already done, I have taken care of the planning our every step. Lastly, the best thing about being students in Europe is we have free access to almost every tourist attractions in Paris and other cities as well, so you can always travel for cheap, you just need to know what to search for.
