I used colored pencils to be able to make parts of it brighter and stand out. I used 4 different marks to make this. And I wanted the dots in the background to make the evil parts look darker and brighter dots to make the good things look like they are glowing

What I like about my piece is the contest of colors from light to dark to represent the them of opposites. I used a mixture of blue and purple on the “darkness” side and orange and yellow on the “sunlight” side and it I believe it complements each other well and visually shows that they are opposites. 😊

This piece is created with crosshatching using a Sharpie and repeating dots using coloured markers. The dots on the IPhone is supposed to show the lightness and darkness of the background. The two phones are from two eras, one is old and the other is new; one is also in black and white, while the other is full of colour.

For my project I used colored marker to create small colorful dots through out the drawing. I merged the city and country sections together to emphasize how different they were from each other. I also had one half of my project upside down to make it look like a reflection of the other half.

Strong vs Weak
For my project, I drew two guys working out. The guy on the left is muscular and he’s shirtless. The muscular guy is lifting the barbells above his head. The guy on the left is the strong one. The guy on the right is not muscular. The guy on the right is trying to lift the barbells while he’s trying to lift the barbells, he is sweating, closing his eyes and clenching teeth. The guy on the right is the weak one.

Happiness vs. Distress

For this project I used the technique of pointillism to create two masks. The masks are opposites as one depicts a happy face and the other a distressed face. The colors in the background correlate with the emotion they’re behind. The cooler colors represent happier feelings while the warmer colors represent angry or upset feelings. The placement of the masks also show the theme of opposites.

I used color sticks to draw the lines. I made them really messy, and blended five colors together. I used a sharpie pen to make the dots, and tried to make a gradient design in the middle. I tried to make the dots organized. I like the way this came out.

For my project I chose to show the forest and the ocean. The two opposites show the forest during the day with a bridge going through it, while the ocean is in the middle of a sunset and has a boardwalk going through it. I created my project using many different colored pencils and varying sizes of the letter X to create this project.

For my artwork, I showed the theme of opposites through colors and angles. The color is seen on the left of the artwork with a normal tree on a nice sunny day while on the left there is the same tree except it has no leaves and it is dark and everything that surrounds it is darkness and it is also upside down to help depict the theme of opposites in the artwork as well as the colors as the darkness is the opposite of the color.

This piece is obviously about representing something old and new, but that’s not the only way I see it. Infact, when I was filling out my assessment I realized that an other theme made more sense in my head. I think the ink and pen represent how slow and hard communication was from one place to another back in the day, but today we are able to use phones to connect with each other and it is much more easier and efficient.

Freedom v. Confinement

I created my piece out of the words "confinement," "trapped," and "freedom." The flower in the center is meant to represent freedom, but the cage traps it and confines it. The flower exists as a symbol of freedom, without being free itself.

Nature vs City
I used cross-hatching to create my project. I used many colors to display all of the big and tall buildings. All of the colors make it easier to see the buildings rather than the single tree in the middle. Nature is being taken for by cities, hence there are many building but only one tree.

In my artwork, I decided to portray the concept of big and small. In order for me to come up with the idea, I began to think of things that fit the theme of big and small. The idea of an elephant came to mind, as the elephant represents the idea of big. Thinking of elephants reminded me of the movie Dumbo, which takes place in a circus with an elephant named Dumbo, as the main character alongside his friend the, conductor mouse. These characters inspired me to draw this artwork to demonstrate the theme of big and small.

For my project I used colored pencil to mix the same colors in different shades, to make the look more detailed. I did my project based on the spring where the flowers starts to gain life, and the winter, when there’s no flowers anymore.

I used clouds and feathers to represent light and the elephant as a symbol of weight. I used mark making to create Shadowing and highlights on the elephant. I found the water color was hard to do mark marking with but it was effective when creating the sunset background.

I created a stippling effect in the center of the sunflowers and throughout the koi fish. The koi fish acts as a divide between land, where the sunflowers are, and water, where the fish resides. I used a mixture of greens, blues, and purples to detail the “water” side of the art piece.

I drew half a sub and half a moon together to contrast the opposite of their purpose and colors then on the day side brightened it up with color mark making and prints to emphasize the color and elements of day. I found a picture I liked of Boston's skyline, and decided to make a reflection of it during the night. I used markers to do mark making to fill in the buildings and sky. I have lived just outside of Boston my whole life, and I wanted to show it off because I think it has very nice views.

For my art piece, I drew a tree which portrayed summer and winter. On the left side of the tree, there are no leaves. On the right side of the tree, there are a lot of leaves and apples. The swing, campfire, blue sky, and sun contributes to the summer theme. The leafless, dead tree and mountains show the coldness and gloominess of winter.

Atlantic Vs. Pacific

For my piece, I wanted to challenge myself to research two similar things yet show their differences. I did a lot of research into the shore lines of each respective oceans, and native plants and animals. I use stippling with markers, because I wanted old values that were able to capture all the individual colors on both sides of the drawing. I wanted to get creative while also being realistic.

Family Guy vs South Park

I used colored pencils to mark in polka dots to sketch the character's heads and faces. The big difference you can tell by these characters are that South Park characters have the slated oval eyes with hats on and Family Guy doesn't have it. In my opinion the coolest feature on the project is the head comparisons of Stewie and Cartman compared to Peter and Kyle to show how big Stewie's head is and the size of Cartman's head to his fat body

I chose a horn for the loud aspect because they make very loud noise and their purpose is to make noise. For quiet, I chose feathers because they make no noise no matter what they do. The entire drawing is made from ink dots. I clustered them closer together to show where there was darkness and lighter areas have very few dots.

For this piece, I picked Summer vs Winter. When I think of summer, I think of bright colors so I chose to create a vivid yellow sunflower field with a sunset in the background. I incorporated winter by having a boy wear layered, heavy clothes on a warm summer day. I also chose to draw the boy using dark colors, while the background is bright. To incorporate mark making, the background was created with dashes.

Hot vs. Cold

For this piece, i chose hot vs. cold. For my hot object, i chose the hottest pepper in the world, which is called the carolina reaper. I only used hot colors for my hot object because I felt the colors would help the viewer feel the hotness of the pepper. For my cold object, I chose snowy mountains. Similar to the pepper, i only used cold colors for the mountains and used cooler colors for darker areas and lighter cool colors for lighter areas. I incorporated stippling as my mark making because I felt it would help to show the different values of each drawing as well. I was able to combine colors in my snowy mountains in contrast with my pepper where I kept each color separate.

For my opposites project, I chose shallow vs deep water. I used light colors to make the water look shallower and dark colors to show it getting deeper. I also tried to incorporate different animals in the different type of water where they would be found.

Happy vs. Sad

For my piece, I contrasted the difference between the feelings of happy and sad. In the piece, I merged the two feelings into one face to show a contrast between them. The left is the happy side which is outlined with happy words and quotes. It is also more clean and organized as when you are happy, things are going the way as planned. The right side is sad which is outlined in sad quotes and words. It is more cluttered and splattered to show how when you are feeling sad, your feelings are more all over the place and don’t know how to think straight.

Peace vs War

For this project, I chose to depict a several trees contrasted against factories emitting plumes of smoke. I made the piece in a way it can be flipped and it would still portray the same thing. In the end, I chose this orientation because the factories are more detailed. For this piece, I used markers, sharpies, watercolor, and color pencils. Mark-making techniques I used were crosshatching, clustered watercolor splotches, and dots from markers.
