it connects to their history, language and community. Drum dancing tells stories and helps children with rhythm.

It also fosters a sense of belonging, resilience and pride. Children can learn traditional values and their cultural roots.

This helps them feel closer to their culture. I always enjoy watching drum dancing or listening to songs made by fellow Inuit.

Shalyne

In my opinion Inuktitut Songs and Inuit Drum ground Nunavut Children’s identity by showing where they come from. Teaching them where their ancestors came from, how they sung and danced. I myself I came from big families on both sides ranging from Alaska to Denmark. I use to do Inuvaluit Drumming and Dancing. I haven’t done it maybe the last 4 years. I started when I was 13 years old, and went until my mid 30’s. During that time, I have seen many babies to adults go to the practices. It’s cute when you start them young, teach them our language through songs.

Colleen

Teaching them where are ancestors come from, how they sang and danced and the language on singing the Inuit songs it would pass on to the children and it helps the children experience what our ancestors did when they were young and old they taught our parents and our parents taught us and we would pass on to our children and grandchildren, great grandchildren.

Michelle
