Effects of Prenatal Development, Care for early childhood experiences have on adolescent social and emotional development.

Prenatal development and early childhood experiences have a profoundly influential impact on adolescent social and emotional development. Prenatal care should include a healthy diet and avoiding harmful substances (such as tobacco, excessive caffeine, and air pollution). These things all affect a child's brain development. This can also affect a child socially and emotionally while developing. Early Childhood Experiences should include an inclusive environments in which a child receives stimulation, time to bond with caregiver, parents, and can grow in their emotional regulation.

Infants: Playing peekabo with an infant. Modeling with a blanket, the Caregiver will put the blanket up to their face and go peekabo. Then the caregiver will do the same, giving the baby the blanket. This encourages the infant to imitate what they saw from the caregiver. If the infant drops the blanket, they may be frustrated and kick their legs. The caregiver simply picks up the blanket and models the appropriate behavior. This shows the infant appropriate play and how to get an appropriate reaction.

Toddlers: Supporting self-awareness is vital at this age. Example: The teacher sees John watching his friend building blocks. The teacher goes over to John, takes him to the block area, and begins to build blocks with him beside his friend, who is also building blocks. John is learning parallel play and social skills.

Early Childhood: Children at this stage will begin to engage in pretend play with one another. In the dramatic play area, two students are cooking. One child is doing the prepping of the food, washing their hands putting things in bowls. While the other child is baking the food. They are making "spaghetti." Discussing independence, sharing, and taking turns.

Self-regulation involves the capacity to be in charge of your own behavior, emotions, and ideas. An example of this is a child who is upset can go to the calming corner and recognize their feelings, and be able to calm themselves.

Teachers can encourage self-regulation in their classrooms.

Providing students with visuals of their feelings. Example: Feelings board pictures:

Happy, Sad, Angry, Excited.

Encourage strategies for self-regulation, such as breathing in and breathing out 5- 7 times.

Providing children with an area where they may go and calm down. A calm down area with sensory toys such as poppets, quiet books about feelings. Stress balls to squeeze.
