In the start he experimented and was trying to figure out a calendar by tying to follow the "Lunar Cycle". Throughout the time he realized that it began to change because of the seasons. While doing the study they discovered that many people spent over 1,000 just on gifts. The issue with this is the debt it placed on those who over spent during the holidays.
