Taft was born into a large well- known political family. He had five siblings. He went to private school as he grew up and attended Yale College, just like his father. He was in a secret society called Skull and Bones, which his father had co-founded in 1832. He followed his ancestors path by practicing law. However, he broke tradition by attending The University of Cincinnati College of Law, unlike his father. He had a dream of being a career Jurist, having a seat on the Supreme Court. He then was sidetracked into running for a term as the 27th U.S. President due to his wife and Theodore Roosevelt.

This also went hand in hand with the 16th amendment which allowed Congress to collect income taxes. He proposed this in June of 1909 and it was made into a Constitutional Amendment in July of 1909.
