My name is Julia Prado, but my family calls me by my middle name, Carla. I was born in Miami and raised Cuban. I live in Homestead, but I am usually on the road, so I know most of Miami. I went to High school down south, a school that isn't popular called Somerset Academy Charter High. When I graduated, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in business, so that is my current pathway. I am very passionate and take pride in what I do, so I thought Business Administration was the career for me. One of my favorite things about my pathway is the negotiation part which is also one of my strengths. One of my weaknesses is reading and lectures because I wouldn't say I like practicing them at all. Some of my hobbies are going to the gym, hairstyling, and spending time with my dog. As a person that has lived in Miami her whole life and has also lived in all parts of too, There are certainly differences in the prices from back then and from today speaking in regards to houses. One thing that caught my attention is the desire for little Haiti homes to this day. Climate gentrification will take cultures, values, and exceptionally memorable spots for families that can have a lot of sentimental meanings. Miami is growing at an unprecedented rate that is slowly leaving us with barely vacant sites and a lot more populated counties that have not ideally been for "new" development. As explained in the video called " The Story of Cosmetics," The women emphasize the number of toxins and harmful chemicals our daily products have. These products range from deodorant to body wash and even more. As she showed in the video, even baby products are full of toxic chemicals harming them. It is sad to know that in a world that is already so harmful, we need to be extra cautious with what we use because every little thing can cause diseases and much more. From the woman's perspective, no company puts the toxins they include in their product as the ingredients, so how should we know what is safe and what is not? It is an isue that is not only seen in third world countires but in more places than we think around us.I also picked the food security and nutrition and sustainable agriculture because I feel like it would be the foundation to helping all those people in need.

The energy produced in the US will be considerably greener in the near future. By 2050, the nation wants to make roughly half its electricity by solar power alone. However, we must find a way to construct solar power plants where coal and gas plants once stood. They must be built in a sunny area.
Additionally, wind turbines must be constructed in windy areas. The issue is that those are somewhere other than where the people who require power are. One of the main reasons this video goes over is how much work needs to be done to make clean energy for us and our peers. Since we do not use much clean energy, we would need more transformers for our electricity needs. Month by month, the number of people facing hunger increases by at least 3%, including adolescents and kids under the age of five. Implying food security will allow these people to have access to nutritious foods at all times. This implementation will help decrease the percentage of kids and adults dying from hunger. It is fascinating to me the variation for each source, such as using coal or wind power. Wind power takes up about half of a parking spot for a small light bulb, so I can only imagine how much space is needed for a town or a city.

This padlet caught my eye because it is very girly and simple. Another thing that caught my eye about her padlet is it's neat and organized; it reminds me of myself and how I have my own padlet set up. As I read through her padlet, it gives me a sense of wellness. She explains all the things she likes to do, such as yoga. She also talks about how important it is to live healthy lives. She states, "We must address the primary health needs of the world population to achieve the goals of sustainable development care to all." Reading this on her padlet made me realize the importance mental health can have on someone. I believe we can not help the world around us if we are not good ourselves, and Paola did an excellent job explaining this. Desalination can assist in ensuring a consistent supply of drinking water in areas with limited access to fresh water, which is becoming an issue with increasing urgency as water shortage. Desalination facilities can be constructed near coastlines where seawater is readily accessible, and the cleaned water can then be transported by water tankers or pipelines to neighboring communities. In desert areas with limited access to conventional water sources, this procedure can offer a dependable source of fresh water for domestic, industrial, and agricultural usage. Although this method consumes a lot of energy and can be expensive for certain people, technological advancements have improved its effectiveness and reduced its cost. My initial reaction to this course prior to starting was a little off, mainly because I was taking it for credits. I am not the type of student that enjoys science because it is not something that calls my attention. I expected to learn some new things about science and our environment coming into the course, although I was still worried because science is complex and outside of my interests.

During this course, I struggled with some of the work initially because I needed to gain background knowledge. As the course progressed, I saw myself completing the homework more efficiently, thanks to the PowerPoint, lectures, and quizzes the professor would provide us with. During our virtual class sessions, I came across many interesting topics, such as climate gentrification, which is something I had never heard of prior to this class. Along with issues like climate gentrification, we also learned about volts, watts, and different ways we get light to our homes.

To summarize, I believe I developed a greater understanding of scientific ideas. I also feel more confident in thinking critically and solving problems. But as the course progressed, I discovered that I appreciate the challenge of learning about the natural world and the chance to partake in experiential learning opportunities. Ultimately, finishing a science course like this transformed the way I thought about the subject and gave me valuable knowledge and abilities to help me throughout my life. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to suggest this class. Even if science isn't your strong suit, as it wasn't for me, you can still benefit significantly from this course. I gained much knowledge about science and our environment, as well as a great professor and amazing classmates.
