Module 6 was a really useful chapter. It helped me understand how crucial the procurement process is in making sure the government spends money wisely. Learning about the steps, from planning to selecting suppliers and managing contracts, made me realize how much effort goes into keeping the process fair and transparent. It’s definitely a chapter that gives a good foundation for understanding how public sector purchases work.

In our Public Sector module, we dove into the world of public procurement, learning to identify and differentiate various risks involved in the process. We explored effective risk strategies and mitigation options, applying them to real-life case studies in class. One interesting case involved a $1,000 job that highlighted the importance of proper insurance and compliance with regulations. This scenario showed us firsthand how crucial it is to perform thorough case analyses to avoid costly mistakes and ensure successful outcomes in procurement.

It was a fun class because we got to do the presentation about the topic “Public Agencies”. Our group of 4 was selected randomly by picking cards. We got around 20 minutes to build a PowerPoint (around 5 to 6 slides) about 1 agency in Canada. Our group pick the provincial agency called Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA). There are 2 things that I found interesting about this assignment. First of all, since the group got selected randomly, I got to work with new people that I’ve never worked with before. Secondly, the fact that we only had a short amount of time to prepare a complete PowerPoint and we also had to present made this asignement extremely fun and challenging. I’ve never had such an experience like that before. Even though my group mates and I worked under pressure, the result turned out great. It was such a memorable class day.

Module 9 provided great insight into competitive bidding: evaluation criteria, selection of suppliers, and the importance of clear terms and conditions in procurement documents. I did learn how public agencies use different evaluation methods to ensure fairness and transparency, some of which I applied in the Silex project draft report. This direct involvement allowed me to connect theory with practice, especially in the development of methods for supplier selection and collaboration with my team. Overall, this module enhanced my understanding of strategic procurement processes and reinforced the importance of accountability in supplier relationships.

Module 10 looked at key issues concerning the management of suppliers and the contracting process, with key means of maintaining accountability, observing the performance, and strengthening suppliers. I have learned that it is very important in ensuring the resolution of disputes through effective communication and with thoroughly prepared contracts. This week, we also submitted the draft for our Silex project, enabling us to further develop our procurement strategies and apply concepts regarding supplier evaluation and selection. In this respect, a combination of theoretical learning with project work strengthened my ability to approach the issue of supplier management and contracting with a more strategic perspective.

This in-class working period gave my group a chance to rehearse the Silex project presentation and improve our approach through feedback from peers and other groups. Having all group members was important since we could work out coordination, practice, and fill the gaps in the delivery. The feedback received highlighted a number of areas for improvement that we should look into, including the clarification of key points and the improvement of visual aids. Overall, this module has reinforced the importance of teamwork, communication, and preparation in giving a coordinated and professional presentation.

Module 12 was the presentation of the SILEx groups, and all teams had the opportunity to present their research and findings. Our group was nervous prior to the presentation, but we supported one another and worked hard to deliver a clear and cohesive presentation. To reflect professionalism, we made an effort to dress in business casual attire, which helped boost our confidence and added a polished touch to our delivery. Although we were very apprehensive, we were proud of how we presented our hard work. Even listening to other groups' presentations gave me fresh perspectives and new ideas, adding to my understanding of procurement strategies. This module was a great experience in professional communication, teamwork, and presentation skills.
