So you have to multiply everything inside the brackets by the number outside the brackets.
Examples 1:
2(x + 5)
1) x times 2 = 2x
2) 5 times 2 = 10
Answer = 2x +10
Example 2:
1) 5 (x +2) + 2(4x + 1)
2) 5x +10 + 8x + 2
3) Then you have to collect all of the like terms.
4) 5x + 8x = 13x and 10 + 2 = 12
