Beatrice is shocked and confused when her aptitude test is inconclusive and must keep this information to herself in order to avoid danger. She chooses to join the Dauntless faction in her choosing ceremony, which is quite different than the faction she grew up in, and endures many challenges during her faction initiation. While she feels like she finally fits in, she is always wondering what danger awaits her because she is "divergent".
