In my family the big decisions usually came from my parents, but being the oldest brother I often got pulled into those conversations first. My parents trusted me to set an example for my younger brothers whether it was about sports, school, or even smaller things like chores. My dad usually made the financial and long-term calls while my mom handled most of the daily routines. Because I was the oldest, I felt like I had more responsibility and a little more say in shaping what we did as a family compared to my brothers.

I would classify my family as pretty informal with a competitive edge. We did not use strict titles or formal language, and there was always a lot of joking around. At the same time, competition was a big part of how we related to each other, whether it was grades, sports, or even video games. That competitiveness made things lively, and while it sometimes caused arguments, it also pushed us to work harder and try new things.

In my family the elderly have always been treated with a lot of respect and care. My grandparents are seen as the foundation of our family, and we looked to them for guidance, stories, and traditions that connected us to our roots. Even with busy schedules we always tried to stay close to them and include them in family gatherings. Their opinions carried a lot of weight with my parents, and spending time with them reminded us to value family over competition.

I first learned about religious matters by going to CCD classes from kindergarten through 10th grade. Every week I would go after school, and that is where I learned about scripture, the sacraments, and the basics of Catholic teaching. My parents made sure all of us brothers went, and sometimes it felt like a competition to see who could answer questions the fastest or remember the most details. Even though I did not always enjoy it at the time, CCD gave me a strong foundation for understanding faith and influenced the way I think about religion today.
