A. SAMR stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. The overall model references intergrading technology into modern classrooms.

Substitution includes changing an older method without a computer to a modified version to fit computers and technology in the classroom. A way this could reach inside the classroom is by taking notes using ISO Notes, or a keynote presentation on iPads.

Augmentation includes doing common tasks on the computer using advanced technologies. A way this could reach inside the classroom is to send a quiz reminder, dictionary searches from word documents and even submitting projects or papers online.

Modification includes making small and bigger changes in the classroom. All simple tasks are now being done with technology. A way this could reach inside the classroom is combining sound and visuals in iMovie, or creating and scanning a QR code. A big change could be having a whole lesson on the SMART Board that is also projected on Chrome Books on students desks.

Redefinition allows for computer technology to have advances that were never even imagined being able to work in the past. A way this could reach inside the classroom is using interactive document using iBooks Author or mind mapping concepts visually.

B. The model was popularized by Dr. Ruben Puentedura. The model is a combination between Bloom's Taxonomy for higher cognitive skills and SMAR, with the student incomes. Although this work can be seen on Dr. Puentedura's page, the information can be more widely accessed on Kathy Schrock's website. This model is widely used in the modern day with the introduction of SMART Boards and Chrome Books in almost every classroom.

C. The purpose of the model is to see what benefits come out of using computer technology in learning and teaching. This is more beneficial as students can go from using paper, to infusing technology in a healthy and educational way into their daily lives. This is a more meaningful way to advance learning.

D. Examples of each model

Substitution - Students passing around a sheet to sign in for attendance, now teacher manually checks their name on a word document.

Augmentation - Students work on a review packet on a cloud based shared document, instead of a printed copy.

Modification - Students are asked to create a music video, that will help them memorize the mathematics equations they will be using this year.

Redefinition - A classroom is asked to create a weekly live stream. Each week a new group of students shares information on a current event in our world today.

E. I believe that the SAMR model will be of great help for us students and teachers. This model will be a lot more efficient and environmental friendly in saving paper and doing a majority of tasks online. This will also advance our students knowledge and get them used to working independently, or in groups with technology sources. The four levels are perfect and applicable for student's 21st century learning, because it comes with many new technological advances that will help us all in the future. Also, for students with prior experience, this is something great because it teaches them new and better ways to do certain tasks that are most likely more efficient.

This lesson, found on https://www.engageny.org/, is a ELA lesson plan for the 2nd grade. This lesson reintroduces the idea of fairytales and introduces a new fairytale called The Fisherman and His Wife. With this lesson, students will be able to answer comprehensive questions with the intent to evaluate and infer based of the reading. Students will also learn new vocabulary and work on their group work. In this lesson, the student will work together to answer comprehension questions about the fairytale and use critical reading skills to develop their own questions and answer predetermined questions as well. Think Pair Share activities are used to evaluate understanding and to develop communication skills.

Lesson Transformation with SAMR

Substitution:
1. While asking kids "if they have ever heard a fairy tale and if they remember the fairytale’s title." Put pictures up on the SMARTboard of specific books and have them come to the SMARTboard and write a tally under their favorite of the one they remember the most.
2. While explaining that "this story was retold and made popular by two brothers in Germany." Pull up a map of Germany and scroll through some Google pictures for the country. Also, play a short video about the storytellers and tell kids they can be storytellers too. Have the picture of the book pop up on a map from the county that the fairytale is from. So, The fisherman and His Wife will pop up on the country of Germany, Cinderella will pop up on France.

Augmentation:

3. During the read aloud, the lesson call for a Picture Walk. "Take a picture walk through this story together. Explain that a picture walk is when they look at the pictures from the story to become familiar with the story, see the characters of the story, and make predictions about what might happen in the story." The lesson says to pull up each picture and show a hard copy. Instead of this, a teacher could have to picture on the SMARTboard so they re not only more visible for students, they are a better focal point for students to focus on.
4. Read the fairytale to the students, then for the second time around, find a youtube video of someone else reading the story. This will redirect focus and help students have a different perspective of the flow and the emphasis on specific parts of the story.
5. Another way that Augmentation can be used in the class room is for the Think Pair Share activity. SMARTboords have a random generator application that a teacher can just copy and paste the class list into. Call students to the front of the classroom to press the button to get their pairs. This way, a student wont be always choosing their friends and they will get opportunities to talk to and collaborate other students in the class.

Modification:
6. While working on word work, the lesson says to: "say the word displeases with me three times" and launches a discussion about the word displeases. Use this as an opportunity for the students to use their chrome books or iPads.Students will go to dictionary.com, listen to how to pronounce certain words. Then, have them record themselves saying the word. Then, play it back and try the pronunciation again. This ties in with modification because a modification to our "dream classrooms" would either a) students have their own Chrome Book or b) Chrome Book/iPad carts that teachers have access to.

Redefinition:
7. Building on using the microphone in the word work, have students record themselves reading the story as well. Have students also create a picture book that reflects the story but only using Google images in a word document.
8. Go on a google maps tour of where the story took place. Students will be able to recognize and learn about a new place and use this imagery to have a better understanding of the text.
