My name is Laura and I hope to teach music at a middle school someday. I have a BA in Psychology but decided to go back to school for music because I couldn't imagine myself not having a career in music. I teach percussion at a few high schools around Southern California and essentially don't have much time outside of school and work. When I do have some free time, I like to hang out with my friends and play video games.

I am a Music Education major and my principal instrument is percussion. I want to teach middle school because, as I teach (like a coach position) a few high schools, I often find that incoming freshmen don't have as much musical knowledge as they should after doing band in middle school, so I want to better prepare music students for high school band.

I've been playing various instruments for the bulk of my life. I started learning piano when I was 8 and then started playing flute when I was 11. I continued to play flute until I graduated high school. i began doing percussion in high school and decided to continue in percussion after I graduated. I performed in various percussion competitive groups that compete around Southern California and around the US. I spent a long time as part of an indoor drumlins group called Pulse Percussion and a couple years in a drum corps (essentially 'professional' marching band) called The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps based out of Arizona.

Hobbies

Being a music major, I don't have too much free time as I spend most of my free time practicing. When I do have free time, I tend to hang out with friends or play video games. I like to play Call of Duty or Friday the 13th on PS4 (I'm boring, to all you gamers :p )

Rocko

I have a Shiba Inu whose name is actually Rocky but I call him Rocko because it's much funnier. He has the personality of a cat. He will rub up against. your legs the way a cat does, he often ignores you when you call him even though you KNOW he heard you, he loves being scratched on his back right by his tail, and he RARELY licks people. He's still the cutest dog ever <3
