Which one of these components or combination of components will work for you school setting? Why do you think they will be effective? Who will be involved in creating this PD model for your school/district that moves teacher along the SAMR continuum?

I believe the best way to approach PD for the SAMR model is a combination of the PLC and Coaching. You could even arrange on-line PLC meetings through Google classroom to encourage the use of technology. We use a technology coach at my school in combination with a PLC on using technology for effective instruction. The coach has a period that he can go around and troubleshoot our technology and he can help teachers use the technology. I believe the combination of the PLC and coaching demonstrates the commitment of administration to the use of technology for educational purposes.

In my school, we operate using the PLC method of professional development. We divide our assignments up and designate a team for each element. After the teams meet and discuss, we incorporate a segment of the coaching model of teacher leader. Each PLC is assigned a teacher leader to help manage PD, define tasks to be completed, manage time, and encourage participation. Having a teacher leader of the PLC's takes the burden off the administration and allows them to be active participants.

This article list four different ways to use PD for the SAMR. I believe each of the ways could be successful. Within my building, PLC's would be the most effective way. This models a classroom setting. There is a facilitator, there is collaboration, and there's online communication

Each school is different but the common aspect is always that new initiatives require a plan of action. With my school in mind, a think a collaborative approach of the ideas suggested would work best. Because each of our grade levels are so large with 12-14 teachers (K-2), I know each group may require something different for success. We have several teacher-leaders that are willing to help support the efforts of improving our school. Those individuals would be great as mentors and support. They could help with creating "Just in Time" video resources. People are often encouraged and supported by the work of their peers and colleagues. In addition, as admins we have to lead in the role of technology. This could definitely be supported by the ongoing use of PLCs online.

I think a good way for PD on the SAMR Model would be through Coaching/Mentoring/Teacher Leaders. Initially, you would introduce the model through someone who has the expertise about the model itself as well as different resources and ways to redefine lessons. You could then choose your teacher leaders who are open and willing to experiment in the classroom. They can present to the faculty their experiences and be the bridge between administration and faculty. I think when faculty see one of their peers enjoying success with a new concept it encourage them to step out of their box. Finally, technology must be used to manage the "on-going" component of EFFECTIVE professional development. Teachers could use the SAMR model and practice with the new technology tools they're learning about to continue the PD.

I believe that all four approaches to PD should be used to incorporate all learning styles of the teachers to help them feel less fearful of something new. The PLC method has been used for a long time, and the coaching and mentoring fits in well with any PD because the teachers are the leaders and teachers learn better from themselves than the administrators.
I am all about using the power of videos to assist the teachers in their own time in understanding what is being presented. They are not blinded and overwhelmed when they must begin communicating about their own use of technology. I think that the school administrator must take the lead in introduction through providing the information to the teachers before the actually rolling out of what the teachers believe is just another something for us to do.
Selling it to the faculty and getting buy in must be done gently. Google Docs with lots of links explaining and showing the reasoning behind the move to the SAMR model will help teachers. Padlet could be used for teachers to make comments positive or negative which could be addressed at a face-to-face meeting with all stakeholders. The teacher leaders will emerge automatically and can help immensely in providing help and support to the teachers.
