The Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance

The Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance is a folk custom held annually in the coastal Hakka villages on the northern side of Hong Kong Island in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to ward off plague and pray for blessings. The event is held three nights before and after the Mid-Autumn Festival. Every year, residents of Tai Hang make a new fire dragon, and on the night of the 14th day of the eighth lunar month, a consecration ceremony is held for the fire dragon in the Lotus Temple, which is dedicated to Guanyin. After that, it will parade all the streets of Tai Hang in a clockwise direction for three consecutive nights.
