In The Friday Night Solution, Randy Pausch explains how he got tenure a year earlier than people usually do. This impressed other faculty members, they wondered what his secret was. He told them to call him any Friday night and go to his office at 10 o'clock and he'd tell them. People always look for a shortcut, and he found the best shortcut which is Work Hard. He mentions that if you work hard, it's "like a compounded interest in the bank" (156). The rewards build faster. He used to ask long-married couples how they were able to stay together, they all said the same thing: "We Worked Hard at it." This inspired him to Work Hard.

"A lot of people want a shortcut. I find the best shortcut is the long way, which is basically two words: work hard" (156).

Explanation:
People always want to find an easier way to get through something. Pausch's shortcut is to just simply work harder than anyone else. When you work hard you're achieving your goal and the rewards build faster.

"If you work more hours than somebody else, during those hours you learn more about your craft. That can make you more efficient, more able, even happier. Hard work is like compounded interest in the bank" (156).

Explanation:
When you put effort into the task at hand and spend more time on it, you learn more. Compounded interest in the bank mean that all the time and effort you put into it, will all be worth it and earned.

"The same is true in your life outside of your job. All my adult life I've felt drawn to ask long-married couples how they were able to stay together. All of them said the same thing: "We worked hard at it" (156).

Explanation:
Outside of a job, working hard should also be applied. Putting effort into your life can bring you down the right path to success. When you put effort into a relationship, or family you form a bond and that is the reward of working hard.
