After being taken into custody word got out to the black community that he might be lynched so a group of armed African american males stood guard of the jail were he was being held moments after the group showed up to the police station a group of whites did a comfirntation broke in between the two races leaving twelve dead out of those twelve ten were white and two were black after this altercation occurred a group of whites took to the black community and went on a rampage killing black men and women, robbing stores and damaging properties leaving countless people homeless
