In recent news, there has been lots of discussion about police and their use of unnecessary force. Some people argue that police need better training, others think that police should be given less power. But are the police acting out of racism, or self defence?

Many of you have probably heard of the shooting of Walter Scott, a black man, by a Furgosun police officer. You may also know that the shooting was caught on tape. It was very clear that the officer had no reason to shoot the man, but shot him anyways. this evidence supports the charge of murder against the officer. this is just one of the many cases about police officers being curupt. Many people say they are racist, others say they are not trained aproperiatly. Obviously in this case, the outcome could have been avoided. But many others shooting have taken place where witnesses say there was no other opsion. Every case is different, but the bottom line remains the same: is the police system curupt?

http://www.newsweek.com/south-carolina-police-fire-officer-charged-killing-walter-scott-320878

Do you believe the media is using this to get viewer's from the minority demographic? or could we being seeing the Black demographic blaming the cops as revenge for past mistakes?

I think the entire group agreed that it would be unfair for police officers to investigate their colleagues. However, many of us had different ideas atls to how the investigation should be handled. Some felt that the government should be in charge of investigating precincts. That could work, but a state or local government should be used, not the federal government. Some people suggested a random third party, but how would people who have never worked in a police office know what should and should not be done? My favorite idea was by Kenny, who suggested retired police man come and investigate. This allows for experienced people to judge without fear of bias.

In Baltimore there is so much going on that everything is going out of control. Police in Baltimore are doing what they can, but there needs to be a higher rank of armed guards to control the riots. I say that the armed forces should be brought in to control the problem. If the rioting hasn't been stopped yet by the police that are there then those police aren't going to be able to put an end to the rioting.

In my opinion, I think that the police should NOT take a more active roles than they are in Baltimore. If they do, who knows what could happen as a result? Yes, peace could be a result, but how long does that peace last? What cost does that peace come at? If the police the try to force the people into submission, the people will just get angrier and retaliate more aggressively. And, if history has proven anything, there is strength in numbers.
