Ostriches perform a complex mating ritual consisting of the male alternating wing beats until he attracts a mate, when they will go to the mating area and he will drive away all intruders. They graze until their behavior is synchronized, then the feeding becomes secondary and the process takes on a ritualistic appearance. The male will then excitedly flap alternate wings again, and start poking on the ground with his bill. He will then violently flap his wings to symbolically clear out a nest in the dirt. Then, while the female runs circle around him with lowered wings, he will wind his head in a spiral motion. She will drop to the ground and he will mount for copulation. All of the herd’s females place their eggs in the dominant girl nest though her own are given the prominent center place; each female can determine her own eggs among others.

Darwin's theory stats that the fitness trait in a animal will be the most favorable there fore it will help that animal survive in certain conditions that are changing in that individuals environment. this is relating the these animals because at one point in time they found it easier to walk around then to fly but there was a quick change in the ecosystem by mammals being introduced. this cause these animals to start to dwindle extremely in size of their population because these mammal posed new threats which in turn slimmed down their population decreasing the amounts of mutations in the animals and therefore decreasing the ability to evolve to compensate for the new threat.
