Social media platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram can be used successfully for learning and development.
From an instructor's perspective, social media is a way to connect with learners anytime and from anywhere. I could be at a crag, getting ready for a climb, and quickly tweet my learners about the next class; providing them with an idea on what to expect, or encouraging them when knowing that the next topic will be dry. There is a better chance that the messages will reach them quicker through social media than through an email. Or, I could tweet them to check their email for more detailed information.

Animation stimulates creativity, as the animators (or in this case instructors) use audio and visual elements to illustrate ideas and key points of their presentation. It allows painting a picture of the topic, so the audience can stay engaged; teaching and learning become livelier (especially for dry topics). As some things cannot be demonstrated live – due to logistics, safety, or lack of resources – animated videos provide a way for people to learn at their own pace and sometimes in the comfort of their homes.

Animation has some traps of its own. Platforms like GoAnimate have a vast library of assets; users can choose from a multitude of characters, actions, templates, props, text styles, and sounds. A user can also upload their own audio and visual files. So, it is very easy to waste a lot of time browsing and trying all these assets. The best approach is to have a plan. Create a story-line, record your audio in advance (preferably in small mp3 files), and establish the assets you’ll use for your video (the templates, characters, props, sounds etc.).

Avoid loading up on animation. Too much content can be overwhelming and the audience will loose interest; learners are more likely to engage with a short (~5 minutes) video than an entire lecture held by a cartoon character.
