Transcendentalism Quote

The quote "Too be great is to be misunderstood." (Ralph Waldo Emerson). This could be seen as transcendental in many ways, one tenet it shows is self reliance. This quote shows self reliance because it's saying you don't need to be like everyone else to be great. Be yourself and that right there means your great because you're yourself and not exactly like everyone else. Another tenet it shows is well being over financial. This is shown because its saying don't worry about your financial situation; do what makes you happy. That will make you great.

Which Transcendental author best articulates the idea that one's spiritual well-being is more important than one’s financial or social well-being?

The Transcendental author that best articulates the idea that one's spiritual well-being is more important than one's financial or social well-being is Ralph Waldo Emerson. This could be found in Nature where he states "I become a Transparent eye-ball; I am nothing; I see all..." (Emerson, 364). This quote shows spiritual well-being is more important then financial well-being because he saying that he is just there, watching everything, not worrying about his financial or social aspect of his life. This quote could be seen in many different ways. Another example is when he states "The greatest delight which the fields and woods minister, is the suggestion of an occult relation between man and vegetable" (Emerson, 366). This quote shows spiritual well-being over financial or social well-being because he saying he has a relationship with the vegetable and that the vegetable respects him and he respects them. This could be said as spiritual well-being because its not possible for a vegetable to nod at him.

This picture could be said to be transcendental because it shows many tenets of transcendentalism. One example is that it shows self-reliance. It shows self-reliance because there's just a man standing alone, no one around just him. This could mean that you don't need help from anyone to make it up high up in life *he's on top of a high rock*. This picture makes me feel very independent and like I can accomplish a lot just by myself with no help from anyone.

The song I chose to use is Kendrick Lamar - Element (Link isn't clean version couldn't find one). The first lyric I found that can relate to transcendentalism is “All my grandmas dead so aint nobody praying for me”. Another lyric I found is “they won't take me out my element”. Finally, The last lyric I found is “Don't judge me”. This lyrics can all tie to self-reliance because they're all saying no matter what he will do his thing and try and succeed and he wont stop. He also is just very confident in himself.
