There were many changes that were made during this era however, both parties pretty much just wet back and forth with one another. When one party did one thing, the other did something in retaliation to what the other did. They did make progess here and there, but the other party would always end up doing something to spite the other party.

During reconstruction many changes occurred that were good and poor especially with Andrew Johnson. I do think that the era brought many radical changes with the President being given much less power and finally impeached and many groups being formed against the abolishment. Many new laws and rules were implemented aswell.

Reconstruction was an era that did not bring much radical change because of the treatment of African Americans and the decisions of Andrew Johnson. With slaves being newly freed by the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War, slaves had to establish a new way of life. Though help was given to the freedmen (like through the Freedmen's Bureau), organizations like the Ku Klux Klan treated African Americans worse than slavery, so African Americans didn't experience much change. The plan of reconstruction that Andrew Johnson used prevented much change. Instead of punishing the South for their actions which could have led to the South treating African Americans better, Johnson pardoned many Confederate leaders, and this allowed these leaders to come back into control and make the same decisions they made before the Civil War.
