This is a picture that my husband made and it got published in a magazine. It was just a picture taken in the morning before going to work. It is a workplace in our neighborhood. I feel that this picture adds an experience av vastness and at the same time the vastness is accommodated and captured into a picture. It gives me a feeling of awe of how the noisy workplace got transformed into a magical place.

I was driving today in my car, and it just struck me that how amazing all technology is. First the wheel was developed and eventually we got high tech vehicles.

I just want to quote my son who got his first bicycle on his birthday. He just sat on it and started to cycle around for a few minutes. I asked him why he did no cycle more, as he never tried it before. He said: it is not important to cycle, what is important is to know you can do it.

I wonder what our ancestors were experiencing when they were using the wheel for the first time. Did they experience an "awe" moment of knowing they can use a wheel or did they just use it? Scientific breakthrough are often expressed as awe experiences, at least according the documentaries I have seen on TV.

Made me happy to meet this couple yesterday on my way to evening walk. They are in their final parts of completing their All India bicycle tour since 2022. Just when I felt for an inspiration this couple blew me away with loads of inspiration. The crazy part is that these cycles are some casual school bicycles here with single speed. My face went with an awe expression and I asked them how did they managed with climbing hills, they simply smiled and said they pushed all the way knowing that with every push they will have reward of going down. The stories I heard with all the kindness they met all the way is just beyond my imagination. It moves to hear and meet such stories. I couldn’t stop thinking of my own adventure I embarked on a long distance bicycle touring through Europe beginning from Sweden. This brought me pure joy and happiness.

Despite having visited it many times during summertime in childhood to feed the European ground squirrels residing in the area, I only recently discovered its beauty in winter, occupying a position between reminiscence of summer and a winter wonderland where sleighing could be fun if there was a bit more snow!

It is a buddhist monastery in France, which opens up in summer time for families. It is not the teaching itself that mostly touched me, it is the practice of Deep Listening. You sit in circle and simply share from your heart without discussion. In this caring environment, I just amazed by new comers just being very open and vulnerable sharing very private issues. Simply sharing without judging, I felt was really transformative.

In a society with lots of desinformation and polarisation, I found it very touching to be in an environment where you can really share without being judged and not needing to explain yourself.

In the Plum village community there are lots of sharing groups, in reality and online. I have been in one group for health practitioners since the pandemic. People from all over the world. Just sharing. No teaching. I get amazed by how touching it is to be in contact with people in an authentic way and being honest is really a gift. Today, I got so happy so see that they got a new online retreat, just like the one I joined during the pandemic.

Recently, while I am here I started to bring back plants back to her space and she started to enjoy caring them again and watching them. I am happy to watch her enjoying caring plants. One among many reasons is plants motivates her to go out to corridor more often and rooftop which brings her physical movement and exposure to sunlight. And ofcourse the satisfaction of care giving cannot be measured.

Today, I walked into my bathroom and got very wet socks. Our toilet had leaked all over the floor. It took 12 towels to clean it all up. I was surprised but not as surprised as my dog! Then I was also very grateful that I have a toilet to get fixed. I have met many students from all over the world who do not have such luxuries, and I remembered one I met many years ago in London at the Human Rights Film Festival whose father was injured while going out to the communal outhouse in the middle of the night at their home in Kenya. Sanitation is a human right, and I feel lucky that I have access to clean water and not only one, but lucky me, two toilets!

My house is not located where I see the most extreme weather. But even from Our little street in Sweden, it was blowing hard and snowing. It made me think how it will look out to see and on the top of a mountain. We had the storm in the teacup, to use the saying in a different sense. I’m so grateful that I had the chance to move home to Sweden after 40 years, and experience 4 full seasons with all the excitement and marvel that brings.

I didn’t have a picture of my awe moment this evening so I am posting my other awe moment picture just for some reference, the moment in this picture happened some days ago while meditating to the beautiful soft sunrise over the vast sea of Bay of Bengal.

This evening while I was walking outdoor at my usual happy place surrounded by trees and birds, suddenly I had this rush to dance and I danced after a long break from dancing. I felt my body so light as feather and I felt super passionate to be alive, I loved my body which is connecting to my inner world and to the external world which filled with so much magic and passion. I just wished that moment that I should keep dancing.

I start to appreciate more this ritual of sharing my moment to you all and as well reading yours. Makes me happy, connected and fulfilled.. this is such a good feeling before bed.

It was an unusual and beautiful sight. The shells were so detailed, creating a stunning, textured surface that was different from anything I'd seen before. It's a remarkable place that's easy to miss but incredibly striking once you see it

I kept trying to identify what I was witnessing for quite a while, noticing that the strange "lights" seemed to get closer to me. I then decided to watch some of the lectures and when I looked outside the window again, the answer was right before my eyes, as fog (possibly enhanced by street lights) was clogging the entire view!

His trust is earned, not given

I’m in awe of my dog, Art. The world is a scary place for him, which we witness every day in his reactions to noises, fast movements, large male dogs. He was born on the streets of Crete and was taken in by us at 4 months. We thought he’d be like any other puppy, cuddle and happy, as he was so young. But not quite so. I wonder what actually happened to him and his siblings on the streets of Crete. Yet this worried little being who looks so perfect (like a carefully crafted breed, not the street mutt that he is), keeps me in wonder daily. His intelligence is far beyond any other dog I’ve had, instantly learning the names of new toys. Occasionally, he’ll treat me with a little lick, a slight pressure of his head against me or excited wagging of the tail when I come home. And the pure joy when he runs free and plays with balls and snow. Nature and I myself am then the centre of his universe. If a dog approaches, he runs between my legs for safety. Little signs of trust, love and affection, that make their way through his constant anxiety. Now age 4, these are the rewards for all the love, care and patience I show this little boy through his worries.

The fact that he’s so anxious make the little signs of love so much more meaningful. It made me think of the animal therapy seminar this week, where it was said that dogs hang around even if you’re not authentic in your behaviour (acting front stage), which horses don’t. In this case, Art is more like a horse, running for cover if there’s a loud noise or quick movement.

Many don’t “get” Art, asking why he doesn’t like them (ie because he doesn’t come and cuddle immediately). But after spending a few days with him, they love him all the more, because the affection is not a given.

His trust is not given, it’s earned.

I just had awe moment listening to an interview by Yuval Noah Harari, professor in history. He said that a modern challenge is on how to transform power into happiness, as powerful people do not seem to become happy. He also said that it is much better to be bored than excited. He focuses on having a healthy mind, by having a information diet. Just the way we count calories, we should count how much information we can handle. He meditates 2 hours a day and he goes for silent meditation retreat for 30-60 days a year. He seems to clever och knowledgeable, and have a quick mind and very informed. I had this awe moment when he said that he achieves all this ... by being quiet and doing sort of boring meditation. I have done long meditation retreats, but I do not have the full trust in it as he has. It really touched me, the way be was talking about being silent.

I took the opportunity to take a 2.5 hour walk with my husband and dog before studies.

Last night, I was reflecting over how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to move back to my native Sweden after 40 Years in the UK (and Canada) and now in the past year to go back to studies and make a brilliant, meaningful career switch to boot. It all felt meant to be. 6 days before Brexit, 3 days before the border closed for Covid. It was so close to never happening. I’m grateful for this every single day, especially when I’m filled with awe at the beauty of Swedish seasons.

I think it is time to publish it and I started to write it here.

Then it struck: the moment of awe thinking about my brains and memory functions - how nicely all my awe moments of this week are stored along with my other awe moments in my life.

On Monday I studied about human genome and how wonderful it is - our genetic code is unique and so neatly packed in the DNA.

On Tuesday I was skiing in the snowy forest and I felt awe about a perfect combination of fresh air, silence, green and white colours forming so beautiful landscape.

On Wednesday it was snowing a lot in Finland. I was walking outside and admired all the shades of white that untouched snow reflected.

On Thursday evening I was attending a meeting that gave me a lot to think about my spirituality and what things are really worth focusing on - I felt awe...about things that are currently without names in my life.

On Friday I was evaluating the swallowing function of a patient who is suffering blepharospasms meaning he had severe difficulties keeping his eyes open. I thought afterwards how seldom we appreciate the ability to open our eys in the morning and keep them open if we want to. I felt awe about our amazingly functioning eyelids that we forget to appreciate.

The sun on a winter day. I didn't know how much I would miss the sun until I experienced weeks without it. I guess the old cliche is true: you don’t appreciate enough things while you have them. Now I feel like it's a holiday as soon as the sun comes up.

Morning walks - first compulsory then voluntary 💫

I read that going for a 15 minutes walk every morning has a positive impact on your mood, sleep, metabolism, digestion and more. Sounded right but I preferred to stay in bed. 😇

And then we got a furry baby. I couldn’t help but to ask myself in the beginning: what could I have done with all this time? How many mails could have been answered or dishes done…But I learn to relax a bit along the way (or better all these mornings ways:) and started to see things differently; maybe through my dog’s eyes. Now I look at these walks as a nice escape into being present and immersed; it’s almost like an exercise in mindfulness. 😊

There are two dogs in the picture: one is mine, one is the neighbor's. She often takes my dog for a walk. It's so nice to know that you can rely on someone, that someone will jump in if you need to water the flowers or just wish you a good day. Grateful for all the dear neighbors who greet me with a smile.
