The setting in this book is mostly at the law firm, mail room, during the summer. Here is a quote from the book: “Your father told me that he talked to you about working at the law firm this summer.” This is when Marcelo's father made him work at the law firm. The reason Marcelo’s father wanted Marcelo to work at the law firm is that he wanted to make Marcelo act like a normal person: the way to do that was to go out for Marcelo in the real world; meaning to work at the law firm. This causes a problem for Marcelo as he doesn’t want to waste summer for a job.

Theme

The theme in this book is: Don’t expect the future as you think it will be because it might change. I think this is a theme because that moral was the resolution to a problem in the story. The problem was that at the beginning of the summer Marcelo wanted to go to Paterson’s school next year; he was sure of it. But his dad made him work at the law firm; if he succeeded to work at the law firm then he would go to Patersons school. If he failed at work in the law firm then he would go to Oak Ridge High. By the end of the summer, Marcelo changed his mind and wanted to go to Oak Ridge High. Here are quotes at the beginning of the summer “Paterson is where Marcelo belongs.” Here are quotes at the end of the summer. “Oak Ridge High will be better. I will not like it as much as Paterson, but it will be better.”

People with Asperger have bad communication skills, have lack of empathy and don’t like change. Marcelo also has a problem with understanding words like I, I’m, He, she.
Also people with Asperger have an obsession with one type of subject; Marcelo’s obsession is with the bible ( religion ).

In the book called Marcelo in the real world, a character named Marcelo was a good leader. The reason he was a good leader is that he was calm, selfless, trustworthy and he made good choices. He was looked calm in stressful situations because of his Asperger-like condition. He was selfless by helping a girl that got injured, though the consequences were bad for him. He was trustworthy because he kept some of the people's darkest secrets; even when he was angry at them he still did not tell the secret. He made good choices because he carefully planned each of his decisions.
Here is evidence for him being selfless: He did not tell the secret that his father kept from him. He wanted revenge for what his father did but he did not tell it to nobody, because it would've hurt someone else. Marcelo had a choice of revenge but he did not choose it because he was not only thinking about himself; this shows that he makes the right choices and is selfless.
Here is evidence for him being trustworthy: when Marcelo had a dark secret from Wendell, Marcelo promised to keep it a secret, and he did keep it a secret throughout the story. This shows that Marcelo is trustworthy.Marcelo is a leader who is trustful, selfless, calm, and makes good choices.

I really liked the book called Marcelo in the real world in many ways and I recommend it to people. The first reason I liked the book is that it always has a new problem that makes me want to know what will happen next? The second reason I liked the book is that Marcelo ( the main character ) breaks down the information when he is talking to other people. This makes it easy for the reader to understand what is happening in the book. The writing in this book is very detailed. This book also covers some inappropriate topics and contains swear words and the book's ending wasn't a happy nor a sad ending. These kinds of endings I like, I think it is a good book for young adults. The most important and interesting thing in the book I think is the theme; it changes your outlook on your life. The story is also believable because anything in the real world can happen the same as it happened to Marcelo. Most of the people can relate the story to their life. I highly recommend this book to people for it is really easy to read, has a strong theme and makes you curious enough to read on.

The first antagonist in the story is Marcelo’s father named Arturo. Arturo causes a problem to Marcelo; the problem he causes is the problem with making Marcelo work at the law firm. The reason he causes that problem is that he doesn’t accept Marcelo with his condition. Here is the evidence: “Your father told me that he talked to you about working at the law firm this summer.” This is Marcelo’s father trying to make Marcelo work at the law firm.
The second antagonist in the story is Marcelo himself. When Marcelo needed to make a choice between doing the case about an injured girl or forgetting about it; It was hard for him to choose it because if he chose to help the girl then he would’ve hurt the law firm but not helping the girl isn’t the right thing either. Another problem was: Marcelo wanted to be a normal person and had to battle against himself to be like one. Evidence: “I must help the girl somehow.... But I don’t want to hurt my father.” This shows that Marcelo is struggling to make a choice between helping and not helping.
