I enjoy reinforcing the idea that each brain processes math differently and that we can each learn new ideas and methods by listening to how other people solve the same problem. I also really love when children work through their own disequilibrium/confusion and have an "AHA" math moment.

I absolutely love mathematics and I find it exciting and interesting. I enjoy fostering that same excitement and enjoyment in my students and watching them work towards a solid understanding of mathematical concepts (not just memorizing steps!) Also I believe fostering a love of mathematics at an early age is crucial for girls' learning and confidence in the field.

I love the "aha" moment when a student truly understands a concept after grappling with it, encouraging students to have/need a growth mindset. I also love that math builds on itself and forces students to be accountable for their own learning.

I love the flexibility that comes with mathematics and problem solving. In the younger grades, it is exciting to see how different children process, internalize and make meaning of numbers, their relationships, and properties. Teaching math allows for hands-on, brains-on experiences which differ with each student. I love making math fun and accessible. It's rewarding when the girls say, 'Yay! Math!"
