The anti-federalists were very against taking away the powers of the state for a stronger federal government because of the fear the federal government  would become too strong and controlling.

Federalists believe that state governments were too strong and it was simply tolerated by the people. They believe the state governments didn't need that much power and that the federal government should be stronger and have more power.
