         <description><![CDATA[<div>Title of Book: The Hunger Games<br><br>Author: Suzanne Collins<br><br>Grade: 4-6<br><br>Themes: Perseverance, strong female role models, inequality, family + friendship, standing up for beliefs,<br><br>Connection to Other Texts/Subjects: Dystopian society (Ex: Maze Runner, Divergent) <br><br>Connections to Junior Learner: Teaches strong lessons to standing up for those they need it (Inequality we experience in real world). Strong diversification within the novel that provides chance for all students to connect.<br><br>Connection to Global/Urban Cohort:<br>Representation of inequality and diversity present globally is also represented in the novel. Katniss' symbol of rebellion (3 Fingers) became a symbol in the real-world who were also experiencing oppression.<br><br>Digital Literacy: Novel was translated into a film series.<br><br>Family/Community Connection: Districts were establish in novel as communities. Within that sense of community the same themes of trying to protect loved ones and share in experiences are present in both novel and real-world.<br><br>Language Arts Curriculum: Create a new character that is set in the world of the Hunger Games. Demonstrate how this character experiences the main themes present in the novel.<br><br>Arts Curriculum: Learning to play the music demonstrated from the film in music class. Find examples of how music determined the tone of the film in keys parts.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We discussed how it was difficult to choose recent relevant books for children, and searching for resources (the reading has good ones, but being able to read them ourselves can still be a challenge).<br>We chose the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe because we were all familiar with it, and we talked about how to update the views to the modern era.</div>]]></description>
