Activities
  • Activity 1: Students in Year 5 and 6  take responsibility for taking food waste from school kitchen each day and adding it to the composter.
  • Activity 2: About 10 litres of food waste is added every day to the composter and compost is used in the school vegetable garden
  • Activity 3: All students take part in outdoor lessons - part of which involves digging over raised beds, adding compost and planting vegetables - through to harvesting in September/ October.

  • Activity 1: Took active part in the ‘Switch-Off Fortnight’ in November 2013
  • Activity 2: Students selected a focus (energy, waste consumption) in their lives and promised to reduce it in the future. 
  • Activity 3: Students completed a survey to show how they had reduced energy consumption 
  • Activity 4: Letters to parents and communications within the school were sent by email to reduce use of paper
  •  Activity 5: Increased focus on recycling by holding a “Swishing Party” to exchange items of clothing with each other
  • Activity 6: Left over items were taken to local charity shop
  • Activity 7: Younger students have had various competitions to recycle plastic bottles and create imaginative designs with it

  • Activity 3: Reorganized waste bins and purchased better recycling centre with clear labels for all bins
  • Activity 4: Designated lunchtime trash monitors to help with sorting recyclable waste
  • Activity 5: Middle school science classes have integrated environmental science, discussion of waste and climate change in their curriculum.
